I have a video file (avi) with an unknown sound codec. Well, Nandub doesn't know it. It says "unknown tag 050". What could it be?

afaik avi cannot muxed (in normal way) with mpeg layer 2 audio...
Try open and remux with avi_mux gui in mkv format

mpeg layer 2 is perfectly fine in avi
you need a mp2 acm, get one here (http://www.avisynth.org/Section+2%3A+AviSynth+and+frameserving#q2.9)

Many thanks Stephan, with that you can also encode CD audio in mp2, and mp2 quality at 256k kicks ass.
