In the Encore manual in the "Building the finished project" pg 149 there is the warning "Do not make a DVD folder and then burn that to a DVD".

Does anybody know why they make that warning? I tried it once onto a DVD-RW and it worked ok.

I made the folder and tested using PowerDVD to be sure all the menus were working as desired, then burned from there using Prassi.

Do they suggest another method, such as an image file, to burn to DVD? If so they are trying to avoid the file allocation problems common to many burning softwares.

Adobe is trying to avoid noob mistakes making their software look bad.

Encore can burn a DVD folder, a DVD image, or a DVD disk. I usually use the image and use Decryptor to burn.

What Encore is trying to avoid is this:
John B. Doe builds this great DVD and creates the DVD folder on his hard drive. Then he opens a DATA disc program and drag-n-drops the folder into the folder list. Then, after hitting "Burn" and taking the new disk to his family reunion to show it off, he becomes enraged when uncle Smee's DVD player refuses to recognize the disk as a movie.

As long as you have a valid DVD video burning program, creating a DVD folder is fine. They are just trying to protect themselves.
