burn progs and subs

what is your favorite (functional) dvd burn program? I am looking for a progam that will convert from other formats(avi specifically) to dvd. also one that will add srt files to the final stage or convert avi and srt into one package. If this is not possible how do i get srt to be added to the dvd, maybe convert to another format ?

P.S. i have tried a few they all have one form of glitch that wrenches up the process.

Results are not very good converting from AVI to DVD.
The best results are achieved playing with avisynth and CCE, encoding short clips and watching the result until satisfied. This can be a very time consuming issue since many filters may be used in avisynth.
DVD2svcd is one of them(all in one solutions)but there are many, many other progs, DVD Santa being another one. I have no expierence with them although I have converted avis with avisynth and CCE, most for the fun of it.
Just remember that a good mpg4 file normally comes from a DVD, not the other way around. Last Nero gives also fair results.

i have heard avi converts to dvd at about vhs qaulity that is no prob to me ,but if this is not possible svcd is an option as long as i can add srt files i am happy.plus any more prog suggestions are always welcome
