Began experimenting with recode and here is my list of obvious bugs and a few requests:
Nero Recode SE 2.2.6.4
AviSynth 2.55

Bugs:
- 5.1 Channel HE-ACC has the wrong channels mapped. See MS info:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/directx9_c/directx/htm/waveformatextensible.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/howto/articles/creating71audio.aspx
MS generated test files can be provided for examples.

- Custom resize of AviSynth input fails - Fixed in 2.2.6.9
- Loss of custom profile selection when using back and forwards
- Cancel encoding from AviSynth, hit back to import title section and importing subsequant AviSynth files fails
- Pressing 'Back' from the Burn screen causes "Nero Digital Settings" to vanish.

Requests:
- Allow output of custom file name
- Auto create directory if it doesn't exist
- Proper help and documentation on the advanced features
- Video VBR encoding by Quality (bitrate dissreguarded)
- Audio VBR encoding by Quality (bitrate dissreguarded)
- Separate Resize and aspect ratio settings
- Allow encode of 'audio only video files' to audio only mp4 / enable 5.1 mp4 in the audio encoding tool
- Remember previous settings and directories last used
- Save projects
- Allow manually inputting video 'Start/End' timecodes

there is one another bug : when nero encodes the first pass, the "pause" option doesn't work, cpu is still used a 100%. it only works during 2nd pass...

First that is now old version. I strongly recommend to download the update. Second, according to our AAC developer Ivan Dimkovic, nothing has changed here so channel mapping should be correct. I check this again as soon as I'm home with multichannel system, but I find it pretty unlikely that the channel mapping is wrong..

Bit of a worry when a Nero engineer doesn't know what version the software is : )

Update Package 2 v.3.0.1.27 contains Nero Recode v.2.2.6.9 as per:
http://www.nero.com/en/nero-up.php
http://www.nero.com/en/prog_versions.php

So I'm using the latest version.

I'm 99% sure about the incorrect channel mapping, and I was right when I brought this up with another vendor's product a few months ago - I forget what I was testing at the time.

I should say congratulations on the speedy release of AVC. I await with baited breath for the upcomming improvements (put a priority on Constant Quality encode : ). Well done on the slick GUI, now it just needs some odd bugs fixed and fleshing it out with some advanced features.

Be interesting to see if this becomes the Tmpgenc of 2005+.

Well if I'm not completely blind, you say in your first message that you use 2.2.6.4, which is an old version, but maybe it's just me..

But I'll check channel mapping today so we will see.

Re version - too right! lol. I'll update again now.

Re surround - Your file is encoded mapped fine on my PC as well. When the update finishes downloading I'll run some more tests and post them on the web.

Thanks guys!

OK I ran some tests using the one version behind recode, and definately had problems. See:
http://www.zipworld.com.au/~qcvp/dom/Nero%202.2.6.4/

I used the avs to combine video with the audio (just a random mpeg-2 file, and the selected the first 8 second via the 'start/stop' thing).

The wav file plays perfectly in all applications - mplayer2, powerdvd, nero showtime.

The mp4 file plays with the wrong channels mapped in all applications - mplayer2, powerdvd, nero showtime.

I'll run the same test with the latest nero shortly.

LiFe.

Edit: The avs file plays with correct mapping when played directly in mplayer2, show time (pdvd doesn't play avs).

As per above, the resize bug was fixed. The rest are still occuring in the new version. Demos are in:
http://www.zipworld.com.au/~qcvp/dom/Nero%202.2.6.4/
http://www.zipworld.com.au/~qcvp/dom/Nero%202.2.6.9/

Edit: The avs file plays with correct mapping when played directly in mplayer2, show time (pdvd doesn't play avs). Is the mapping correct if you encode the mpeg2 stream directly with Recode without using Avisynth? I suspect this may only happen with avs input, so I'll look into this.

Yep - Encoding AC3 file directly works fine. Something to do with avs or directshow inputs.

Thanks!

LiFe. Indeed there's this kind of problem with avs input, but only with avs. 5.1 mapping in normal VOB/DVD source encoding is fine. Thanks for pointing this problem out.
