A while ago i tried encoding my entire futurama dvd collection to mpeg-4 through divx and the results were almost perfect. Recently i discovered nero digital and is quite impressed with it's quality but when i tried to encode my futurama the results weren't too good. my settings was the "standard" ASP encoding profile with 2 audio tracks. is there another setting that will yield better results? im after the output files to be around 297MB. should i stick with divx or is xvid better?
thanks

If you want quality, you should use an avc profile, not an asp one. ASP means you're using the mpeg-4 codec ( like xvid & divx ), while AVC means you're using the h264 / AVC codec, which is far more perfomant.
If you only want to play the file on your computer, use nero's maximum defininiton AVC profile. If you want it to be playable on a settupbox, use XviD.
Also, for futurama, 297 MB / ep is clearly an overkill. With avc, you can go down easily to 120 MB / ep.

I have tried Nero Recode's "DVD to Nero Digital ". I am having problems. For starters is it meant to be better than Xvid and DivX. Well I know every Codec has their ups and downs and that no Codec is better than one another. I am not sure if I have read anything wrong but according to Doom 9 Nero made DivX. Well anyway straight to the point. I am trying to convert my Anime DVD Extra's. The Trailers on the DVD. I have experimented with the bit of settings that I do have, but I get very bad quality encodes with Nero Recode. My question is: Has anyone encoded with Nero Recode's "DVD to Nero Digital" and have got excellent results. If so what settings are you using.
:) Thanks alot you Encoders :)
EDIT: Sorry I posted this in the wrong forum. Please can a Mod move it to the right forum: "New A/V Formats - Codecs"
Thanks again.
