Anyone else experience a problem that is something like this.
I use to be able to rip DVD at 5k-12k MAX depending on DVD. now i get a constant 3.2k MAX. I am not sure what happened. I noticed it this two weeks, I installed a few programs and some windows update. Anyone know if dvd shrink can be affected by other programs? I am using the lastest dvd shrink from dvdshrink.org.
nero 6.6.0.5
my system is
3.2G overclocked to 3.8G.
1G
sata drive
btw, its got nothing to do with the overclocking, thats been done over months.

What do you mean by "rip DVD at 5k-12k MAX depending on DVD"??
That's incredibly slow. Your rip speed should be shown in MB instead.

I think he means 5k as in 5000 kb to 12000 kb.. Im guessing. I have seen this issue somewhere on these forums. I dont remember if a solution was ever found. Your dvd drive isnt in PIO mode instead of UDMA mode is it? Also, try ripping with dvd decrypter and see what sort of speeds you get. You should be ripping with decrypter exclusively anyways.

I think TheSeeker is right. Your drive is probably
stuck in PIO mode. This thread will lead you to the
solutions.

I had this problem a few weeks ago and had quite a long post on this. But in short your DVD drive is most likly in PIO mode and it needs to ne in DMA mode. In my case it was in dma mode but still ripped at about 2.4x and I wound up replacing the dvd-rom drive.

Thanks for advices guys.
Its on UDMA mode. UMDA 4.
I got tired of it, so the only thing that I could do is reload. Now I install one program at a time and then rip with same DVD. It takes a long time to install all the programs.
I now suspect its windows update making my shrink shrink a lot slower. I am back to ripping at 6-12kBs.

I would try to update ASPI drivers. For example those, that comes with WinXP Pro (even with SP2) aren't as new and updated as the ones u can get off the net. Before ASPI drivers update it took me up to 45mins to rip a DVD, now under 16-15mins.
Give it a try :)

ASPI has alway been installed.
I don't know why people alway say ASPI should be installed. I alway thought that was only for SCSI stuff. But hey, what do I know..... So I install it anyway.
