View Full Version : Capture fail although video displayed OK on-screen?

This is probably a stupid question, but...

I have been using a Canopus ADVC-100 for transferring VHS tapes to my PC (and thence to DVD). After the usual initial stumbles all was well for a long time. But recently, whatever I do, whenever I begin a capture only 128KB (presumably some sort of header) gets written to the output AVI, even though the source video is correctly displayed on the screen (by DVCap).

As far as I'm aware the Panasonic DV codec is installed on the machine and quietly doing it's job.

The hardware (Athlon 3000 on Epox MB w/1Gb, Via chipset FW card, Matrox G550) is unchanged from when I could do this successfully. The only thing I can think of is that I've run a registry cleaner a few times, which might (must?) have trashed something important, and Windows Update stuff has dutifully been installed.

Any hints as to the right course of action would be very gratefully received - I simply have no idea even of where to start :-)

Many thanks,

Pete.
