If I record a DVD in a stand alone recorder (Sony GX300) in VR format is there any way to convert the recording to a standard DVD format i.e. ifo and vob files.

Thanks

I have a LiteOn unit, but perhaps the same applies. The produced disks from the standalone (LiteOn in my case) will not play on any standalone DVD player in my house except the one it was made on.

I take the VR disk and copy the thing to my hard drive (a file-copy works fine) and then copy the files back to a DVD blank using Nero Express in DVD mode. The resultant copy works fine.

The LiteOn HAS the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders, but it has VR folders also. Nero Express ONLY "sees" the standard DVD folders, not the VR folders, but the copies work fine. Makes me wonder exactly what is inside those VR files.

Is there a guide someplace that explains all this stuff?

Also, I believe that Ulead Movie Maker (I think that's what it is called, haven't used it in a while) takes the VR disk as an input format, allowing you to re-author the material and then re-burn it.

yes the liteon produces vob's and as you say you can use them to make a new disk. I found that the best way to use liteon files is to despense with everything except the vob's and then create new ifo's using ifoedit.

What I was saying is that on the Sony you can record in 2 modes these are VIDEO and VR mode. In VIDEO mode you can use the files as normal i.e. _ts structures are all there. There is an advantage to recording in VR mode in that you can start playing back whilst still recording. However it isnt a standard set of files. So I would like to be able to convert.
