Is there any simple way of converting a 4:3 WS image to 16:9.
This would involve stretching the vertical image, filling more of the verical screen. The horizontal image (which would become stretched in 16:9 mode anyway) would of course be ok and in proportion when (and if) the vertical is stretched to 16:9.

The vertical resolution would of course be reduced as several pixels at at time would in fact be showing the same vertical information.

Thanks

thanks for reply.

I wanted to do it because the only way of getting 4:3 LB ws on 16:9 screen (full width) is to zoom using the TV screen modes. This gives correct aspect and full width but of course you end up with about 400 lines on screen instead of just under 625. You can seen the lines and would like to convert. Have never used the prog you suggest. Can you help.

Thanks

well, you only move part of the resizing from your tv to your pc
are you sure it'll help enough to justify the effort?

Hi-

I'm with E-Male; I don't really see much point in it, especially if you say, "Have never used the prog you suggest. Can you help".

However, I think the most painless way to do it will be to use DVD-Rebuilder. In Options->AVS Options->Advanced (Expert) Options you can set it to convert from 4:3 to 16:9. In addition to having to install AviSynth, you'll also need an encoder. DVD-RB can use CCE, Canopus Procoder (both commercial), Rejig or QEnc (both free).

Doom9 has a Guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdrb.htm), and at the top of the DVD-Rebuilder Forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=75) you'll find lots of information about its setup and use.

All this assumes that you have a DVD burner of some kind.
