So,could someone tell me a working method to theora. Cause i tried the ffmpeg2theora, theoraenc, FFDShow's theora and... it seems that i can't get it work. When i try with the ffdshows, after compresion the vdub closes and the obtained file is useless (it worked as i said, a few weeks ago but i can't recreate that). I want to know a working ffdshow build (that can do theora well in vdub or something) or a trick in using the other tools... i don't know.
Who did encoded in theora...
HELP!

What issues were you having with ffmpeg2theora? FFDshow can't propperly do theora.

ffmpeg2theora its a litlle... undocumented and i tried a few things (with the simplest commands) but for nothing. Can't it encode from avs? Or if it needs another type of input source... what is it? I need a simple but working method (i`ll do SD at about 1300-1500kbps i think) to encode a few short (3-6 min) clips.
P.S. in any tool! doesn't matter how much it takes... just to work and to be decoded properly (and what's the fastest and simplest method to decode theora? ogg pack?)
realanime... did someone tried to encode theora with it?

RealAnime 2.25 can do it, but not 2.30. It output ogg. But, quality is very relative :)

You need avs2yuv than you need to
avs2yuv foo.avs - | ffmpeg2theora -f yuv4mpegpipe -o bar.ogg -

You know, i`m satisfied of the VP3s quality. And its a true working VfW codec!
The Theora files that i did in RealAnime are in ogg container and when i try to demux them (so can i include a vorbis soundtrack created with besweet and a sub)... doesn't work. I`m satisifed of his quality but but i cant edit it as i like. VDubMod ain't wana open it... OGM Demuxer tells me a few errors (unknown stream or something like that). So i think i`ll use VP3 with vorbis and sub in a ogm container :p . I would like to use it but its too damn unstable and... dotsss

You know that vp3 is pretty different from theora eventhough theora is based on vp3. Testing vp3 will tell you nothing about theora.

to use ffmpeg2theora:
1) create a .txt file
2) place the following line in it: ffmpeg2theora.exe -o output.ogg [options] input.xxx
3) for the available options (eg cropping, resize aso..), what about using search or reading the theora sticky?
4) rename the .txt to .bat and execute it
5) enjoy the created .ogg

i dont think that you can play this in a lot of player, maybe with ffdshow and tobias' ogg filters...

Easiest method so far I've found is the Win32 port of Helix Producer:
https://helix-producer.helixcommunity.org/downloads.htm
using the Xiph Theora/Vorbis plugins, outputs to OGG.
https://helixcommunity.org/projects/xiph/
Unlike VLC it DirectShow aware and will read AVS scripts.
Files playback fine with VLC, MPlayer(built with Theora incl) and
RealPlayer10 with the Xiph RP plugins installed, Illiminable's
DirectShow filters will also play the files.
The files stream very well too, I'm using PeerCast P2P but IceCast
also handles them.
PeerCast example at:
http://127.0.0.1:7144/stream/4788661A775200B262E427D1B82F383A.ogg
You'll need PeeCast installed and running,
http://www.peercast.org
and one of the above players.
Neil.

Yep, you "talk" to your PeerCast client via the localhost:7144 port.
The URL I gave tells the PeerCast client to go and search for a
free connection to the given stream and start receiving it if found.
If you have the stream ID handy it's quicker than going via the
PeerCast Yellow Pages site yp.peercast.org .
Neil.
