View Full Version : re-encoding AC3 - nomalization required?

Hi,

I'm converting an NTSC DVD AC3 audio track to PAL by stripping the channels to WAV and running a framerate conversion in BeSweet, and then re-encoding to AC3 in Soft Encode.

The original AC3 track has a dialog normalization of -27dB, and I'm perfectly happy with how it sounds, so when re-encoding should I set the dialog normalization to 0dB or keep it at -27dB?

That is, if I set it to 0dB will it stay at the original -27dB as all I've done is stripped the file to WAV?

Or if I set the re-encode to -27dB will it actually set the normalization to -54dB?

Thanks for any info you can provide to clear up my confusion!
