Hi,
I'm trying to do an NTSC to PAL conversion using DVD2SVCD.
I've actaully performed this once perfectly but can't seem to do it again.
The finished mpeg is now actually longer & slower than the original.
Lets say the original NTSC mpeg runs for 90 mins. (29.97 frames)
The finished PAL mpeg will be around 15 minutes longer & sort off "stretched" with "slower" audio.
In fact I don't think it's actually encoding it to 25 fps although the script does say FPS(25,1,true) when encoding

Anyone help me???

(P.S. Using CCE by the way)

If the source is 29.97 true NTSC (i.e. no pulldown) then converting to 25 fps will slow down the video.

The NTSC->PAL process usually results in a speedup because the video is actually 23.976 (+ pulldown flags).

So
29.97->25 = unacceptable slowdown
23.976->25 = acceptable speedup

Thanks for the info Matthew. :)

So the first time I did this succesfully it will have been a 23.97 to 25 frame conversion yes?
So is there no way to do a decent 29.97 to 25 frame conversion?

Cheers,
Gaz :p

Yeah the first time would have been 23.976->25.

Is there a decent way to do 29.97->25? I've never had the need to do it but there are ways. Such as IVTC to 23.976 and then speedup. But the best method to use no doubt depends upon the specific video you are dealing with.

There are threads dealing with this sort of stuff, so go search :) But be prepared to spend some time on the subject.

I've just done the same conversion of the same 29.97 film but this time ticked the IVTC box in the DVD2SVCD settings.
It's done alot better job but this time it's now slightly faster.
Suppose that's the best result I'll get for 29.97 to 25 for now.

Cheers for the info Matt. :D
