i am going to edit this now, after reading for the past hour on the issues with the new copy protection, etc.
THIS POST has nothing to do with any 'new' protection.
It is simply an error with the dvd. it has no scratches or material on it. the dvd is one in a set of about 20 dvds of seminar lectures i've been backing up successfully (through about 12) till this point. steps were as follows:
1. received error w/decrypter on lite-on dvdrom
2. attempted w/shrink 3.2 - error also
3. 2nd attempt w/decrypter - error
4. 3rd attempt w/decrypter on another dvd drive (plextor 712a) - error
both drives show same sector causing prob.

with powerdvd i found it's about 10 seconds causing the problem then plays fine afterward. playing on standalone hometheater dvd player, hickups at the same point, then skips ahead about 5 minutes and continues playing.
How can I back this on up given the disc error.
thanks

1st always make sure the dvd is clean of dirt, dust, and fingerprints

2nd if you haven't done so, enable "Ignore Read Errors" in dvd decrypter -> Tools -> Settings -> I/O (doesn't always work)

3rd pray or cuss it out (which ever works for you)

ran an attempt with 'ignore read erros' and 0 retries - success....
in IFO mode, log returned 120 sectors it couldn't read.
