If the latest Nero recode release has their latest codec (cf "but hopefully the latest AVC encoder based on the core I used in the codec comparison is now integrated in Recode2"), shouldn't Nero recode2 become the best DVD backup solution?

well, nero AVC is not supported by standalone players which is a major contrapartida (dunno the word in english) whilst divx and xvid are in many cases.

Avayon DXP-1500 does support Nero AVC (it's the only one though currently)
