Hi,
Can I talk with someone from Microsoft (for WMV9), On2 and some XviD and x264 developer/expert? Cause I`m proceeding with the encodings for my test (wich is also an computer magazine article) and... you know. Settings, recommends...
And for RealVideo... is Karl overhere :) ?
Prv. msg. please!

P.S. My test will have (if i`ll get another PC to work with mine) 5 dvd's (toons and 3dlike, something from pixar plus the standard set by doom9: SPR & Matrix3 :) ). Just for you to know. And... no more question (only if you represent on of the contestants :p )

P.P.S. If someone had any cons. for doom9's test (bad for you!)... tell me and maybe (if worths) i`ll use the advices for mine.

More infos... in the 4th post.

[Edit2]
Remember, the 4th post is the issue to be solved. So stick to it!

Why do you want to test ( again ) SPR & Matrix 3 ? You'll find the same results Doom9 got ( except he didn't test x264 ).

You want some hard stuff? Try out "Aliens" (maybe the extended version) instead of Matrix, without any preprocessing, i think it will be funny... :D

But... i cant use his test for writing an magazine article. And the 2 sources are... almost a standard (i think i`ll include Road to El Dorado, Finding Nemo and maybe a normal movie :) , a drama with normal motion and lightning or who knows, i`m still working on the procedures).

These are the CoDecs:

- 3ivX D4 4.5.2fc8
- DivX Fusion 5.9
- XviD 1.1 (cVs DAiLy bUiLD)
- HDx4 1.4 (but I think, if comes sooner, I`ll use the public release that comes in few weeks)
- sEx264 (x264)
- RealVideo 10 "Elysian"
- VideoSoft H.264 PRO CoDec 2.2.4.2
- Windows Media Video 9 VCM (here, i need feedback from the developers)
- On2 VP6 (the last public version or, if On2 provides me, the latest beta or, better, a beta VP7) Here too, I need feedback from the develops.
- Nero Digital (the version that comes with Recode, or if bobololo wants, the latest betas <both profiles>)

And... CCE's MPEG1 & MPEG2 :) :) :) These are to show (in the articles introduction) the progress of the video compression technologies (or standards, almost same s**t, except for the proprietary ones).
For the metric quality test I will use some different clips (short ones, 2-5 min.) like: a clip with slow motion, very little change of background, one with constant changing of brightness and explosions and flashes, very quick motion and frequent changes of the scene, one with motion beside a lattice object, one DV camera sample i guess - an amateur filmed clip with sudden moves, shaking...-, an comic caracter scene with a lot of mimicity, some sorth of forward motion - global-, a phone conversation because there are very few changes -blinking, talking...- and are also sudden moves.... bla-bla-bla.

Anyone who wants to contribute (with something good)... i`m here (am I? :D )

P.S. Theora? Should I try it?

P.P.S. And after this test I'll retire my PC (its time for a new one). :) :) :) :) :)

Aliens? I`ll take a look.

it´d be better if you´d postagrade your test. since divx 6.0, xvid 1.1, 3ivx 4.5.2 still betas. VP7 is only preview. maybe there will be new relase from Nero. there´s no reason

P.S Can anybody say me where can i get 3ivx 4.5.2 beta?

3ivx's beta will be soon release as 3ivx 5. It has a known bug that must be fixed before releasing it to the public. I think it will be soon availble to everybody.

It doesn't need to be postgrade. A few codecs are availeble to everybody and the others... soon :D . The cores are the ones for the next versions of the codecs. So... no DivX 4 included :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) !

OT: IIRC Alien² was harder to code than the first. Grain insanity.

I feel like VP7 will be to VP6 what RV10 is to RV9.

Maybe. I didn't put my hands on it or on the latest version of VP6 (it seems that i can't contact anyone from On2).

Psssst! I was referring to the second, its name here is Aliens... ;)

I tried only to encode the first "raid" in the Alien's domain, getting absurd bitrates for decent quality...
