Hi All

Have a problem when encoding PAL Star Wars II, the Yellow txt is Shimmering. EG it looks like you can see the Stars through it.
I have backed up all my other movies with same or greater compression and they are all fine.

Can anybody recommendend some settings?
Transcoding...
-----------------
CCE SP 2.67.00.27
DDecoder: DGDecode.dll
[23:37:25] Phase I, PREPARATION started.
- Reduction Level for DVD-5: 78,5% (In Shrink this is 79,4% very close estimation :D )
- Overall Bitrate : 3.857Kbs
- Space for Video : 3.861.174KB
- HIGH/LOW/AVERAGE Cell Bitrates: 5.134/262/3.857 Kbs

I have tried these settings without any luck:

VBR Bias = 25
QP = 25
PAS = 3

And after reading about the speciel settings for 2.67.00.27 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=74460)I changed the setting but got the same result
And I dont want to use filters on a movie like Star Wars :D !!

VBR Bias = 30
QP = 28
PAS = 3

I also crop it to get the best Quality
Crop(0,72,720,432)
AddBorders(0,72,0,72)

Below is two grapped pictures from the txt. when you see it running its sharp enough but with this shimmering effect,,,almost translucent:confused:

Any help/feedback is welcome Thanks!

And the "Shimmer" picture below:

EDIT: Just remembered DVD Rebuilder dosent encode multi angles!
And I guess I didnt remove the angles before on the other Star Wars movies doing the encoding so they are ORG.

I also found and please correct me if you think im wrong!
That if you have a 95% (5% to large movie) the quality in fast Transcoders like Shrink (with AES setting) produces a result that match encoding from DVD Rebuilder since the compression is so small its sometimes even sharper in Shrink or you just cant see the differens.

But still I would appreciate comments about recommended settings for Star Wars II I would like to encode it without Org Multi angles ;)

Try

VBR Bias = 10
QP = 4
PAS = 3

This should give more bits to detail.

Hi dannyv

Isnt the Quantizer characteristics to low?
I am using CCE SP 2.67.00.27 and in the forum I have
Read (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=74460) that it should be between 27-30 ?

What version of CCE SP are you using?

I got this from eDealer :D (Thanks!!!):
(I have attached it as a picture because it looks stupid when I paste it...)

By the way can anyone tell me what influence "DC-prec" have when its changed from 10 to 9 ?

I have just installed RB-Opt (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75202&highlight=rbopt) and I have compressed the subtitles to get a higher bitrate on the movie :) Does any one have a input on how low I can go before its a big blur...
Right now I have set it at 1500 at that looks acceptable..

I have done this backup 6 times and have grabbed alot of excatly the same screenshots to compare, I will try your settings when I get home :D

If it fails again I will encode it with multi angles...(So DVD rebuilder dosent encode them) and set the size approx 180MB larger!
And then remove the angles afterwards that would give me the ORG Angle 100% and the encoded movie in HQ to fit a DVD-R I gues....

It would seem that the thread contradicts what I told you. I found it works good for cce 2.67 but the thread does make sence.
