I own a Pioneer 575A DiVX capable player.
It supports idx (vobsub) subtitles "unofficially", meaning, it shows them, but Pioneer says nothing on the subject.
Problem is, the colors are all wrong.
Instead of white (or yellow) with black outline, I get pink-white, with green outline.
I asked on the subject on the [mt13x9] mailing list on Yahoo, and I got this answer:

It seems that the player ignores the line in the .idx file that
contains custom colors, so you can put the RGB colors under custom
colors and change "OFF" to "ON" and convert the original palette to
YCbCr. So the player will get YCbCr colors and the PC will get RGB
colors.

Another option is to have checked polygonise option in the preferences
of VobSub and you'll get white subs with black outline no matter what
colors are in the .idx file.

Here's an online converter if anyone else still needs it
http://www.dvd-replica.com/DVD/color.php

I have no idea if the firmware can do the conversion, but my guess is
that it can't.

the idx color palette goes like this:

# The original palette of the DVD
palette: 000000, 828282, 828282, 828282, 828282, 828282, 828282, ffffff, 828282, bababa, 828282, 828282, 828282, 828282, 828282, 828282

My question is: what do I change, to make the Pioneer "see" black and white on transparent?

TIA

Lol!!!Theoretically, that solves the problem :)
I shall check it tonight.
I was aware of the thread when I did my search, but as it is Philips-Yamaha oriented, I had stopped reading it after page 10. And the solution is on page 11!!! :)
Thank you!!!

P.S.
Hmmm...I'm getting help from an undercover Gou'ld??
