View Full Version : Some questions about “adding Original Menus Back to a DVD Shrink Re-authored DVD”

Applies to:
Main movie re-authored from DVD Shrink (without extras)
there are menus that hold extras to. Do I have to take away extras, can’t I just insert a jump from menu to extras?
When making the backup: should Create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS subfoldersbe checked? Import the IFO that corresponds to the main movie (you will need to know this in advance and it is presumed that you know how to find this out – just look for the VTS in the original folder which has the large VOBs (4Gb+ associated with it). In the case of this particular example, the main movie was actually in VTS_08. In my case (Spider-man) it’s VTS_01_X.VOB. But are there any easier way to found this out than (as I did) ad the sums?

Hi Peter.

Menus do not hold extras, per se. They may contain FBI warnings, studio and Dolby promos etc. However, when importing a menu, the whole lot must be imported. You may then use PGC Edit's Kill Playback macro on the PGCs you don't wish to play.

Don't worry about AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders when you are reauthoring - you just need a temporary folder for the reauthored files - they will be imported into your working folder anyway.

You don't need to add the sums - the real big VOBs will tell you what's what. There is usually only one set of large VOBs - no need to add - just look for a titleset with large VOBs (usually 5 or more of them).

What do you than call the scene/frame where it says “extras” and lists those extras the DVD holds?
I want to keep them too… How do I do that?Originally posted by blutach

After backing up with DVD Shrink there was 5 large VOB´s (i.e. VTS_01_X.VOB where X= 1 to 5)

I would think they are other titlesets. Import them (and their associated menu files) as you would the main movie which you have reauthored. Just keep doing steps 6, 7 and 8 until you have finished inserting the titlesets you want.

2. Yes, there are 5 files, but only 1 titleset containing the movie - in this case VTS_01. You found it! :)

sorry, but I still don’t get it. How do I know witch one of VTS_01_1, VTS_01_2, VTS_01_3, VTS_01_4, or VTS_01_5 contains the titleset?

how do I found those other titlesets and their associated menus the easiest way? In DVD Shrink, I can see that it’s part of menu 7 and 8 I’m interested of.
can I place these menus wherever I want? I want them after the main movie…[/list=1]

Sorry for asking a stupid question but since I don't know what DVD and region you are working with, I'm curious.

Have you tried doing a full disk backup with DVD Shrink? You could also have done some pre-processing with the files like blanking unwanted titles and menus to cut down on size. Even strip out some unneeded audio streams. Anyways, I prefer to keep my original menu as much as I can. For you, keeping you original menu would provide you the opportunity to jump to your kept extras.

Again, you didn't mention you doing this so I ask and suggest.

@2COOL - That thought did cross my mind :)

@plks - VTS_01_1 through VTS_01_5 constitutes the titleset. That is, together, they all do.

In order to preserve the structure of the disk, you will need to import the titlesets and menus as they are. So, if you have imported the menus for "01" and the title (as reauthored) for "VTS_01" and there are 3 more (VTS_02, VTS_03 and VTS_04), you need to do the same for the 02s, 03s and 04s - titles and menus. Do it the same way you did for the 01s.

Hope this has shed some light on the subject - I know it is complicated.

Regards and good luck
