Resident Evil: Apocalypse - Special Edition (Region 1) was horrible for me. There were lots of confusion. Anyway, here’s my files of my original DVD as shown in Explorer.

Hey! I got an extra TitleSet, VTS_08, now! And also, why is my VTS_02_5.VOB not in sorted order?

I ripped all files that DD detected successfully. That’s good as people were having problems with ripping this movie. When opening my DVD in PgcEdit 0.4.7, I get 3 warnings.

http://img30.exs.cx/img30/8859/image0114oy.gif
http://img30.exs.cx/img30/4122/image0122vd.gif
http://img30.exs.cx/img30/5662/image0132pw.gif

Saving the DVD as PgcEdit suggested and reloading, took care of the warnings 2 and 3 but the first one still existed. At this point, I focused on another thing. PgcEdit reported that I had supposed to have 6 VTSs, which is the only ones showing in PgcEdit, but why was there a VTS_07 initially? I opened up VTS_07_0.IFO in IfoEdit 0.971 and this is what I got in its Overview.
VTS overview:

Menu attributes:

Menu 4: [entry only] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 5: [entry only] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Why am I showing a PAL IFO when I supposed to be having a NTSC DVD? In fact, opening up VTS_08_0.IFO produced the exact overview. The only difference between the two is that there is no VTS_08_1.VOB. So what I did was drag these files into another directory.
VTS_07_0.BUP [ 18 KB]
VTS_07_0.IFO [ 18 KB]
VTS_07_0.VOB [ 140 KB]
VTS_07_1.VOB [ 262,144 KB]
VTS_08_0.BUP [ 18 KB]
VTS_08_0.IFO [ 18 KB]
VTS_08_0.VOB [ 140 KB]
Saved (Corrected sectors at the same time) and reloaded in PgcEdit. Now, I don’t have any warnings now. Edit: If I knew about this beforehand, I would have not selected any of these files in DVD Decrypter. I thought things should be well now but there were more discrepancies. When I opened my PgcEditor with Title 1 (Widescreen version) and Title 2 (fullscreen version), I had these warnings respectively.

http://img153.exs.cx/img153/8174/image0243gs.gif

http://img153.exs.cx/img153/3818/image0252ax.gif

Selected “Yes” to both and saving made those warnings vanish. Now, I went about my business with backing up a widescreen w/ menus DVD using better files.

This DVD is EVIL! :angry::angry:

UPDATE: It seems I didn't really need VTS_02_5.VOB after all. I couldn't view it with PowerDVD and when I check this VOB out in VobEdit, I got this.

http://img51.exs.cx/img51/9401/image0268rp.png

To further my testing, I open it in a Hex Editor and found it only to contain only 0's.

So really, after the fact, if I had to rip my original DVD again, I would only select these files only in File mode.

Better yet, since I used my guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87619) to have only a widescreen version backup, I would've forego to not even select my VTS_05 movie VOBs. I should make my ripping quicker.

I'm convinced never to buy it - I've had enough of it and it isn't even released here yet!!!!

Seriously, the DVD Decrypter rip is supposed to be able to load the DVD in Shrink. You might then consider to do a "reauthor" taking just the widescreen version and add menus back in later if you wish.

As an aside, I can't believe the shyte you guys in R1 put up with. Having 2 versions on the disk, each just 3.3GB in unreal. Here in R4, we get 1 version with twice the bitrate!

Upon playing my backup on my standalone, I noticed that I had some play stoppage at last chapter, 28. As I mentioned in my previous thread about VTS_02_5.VOB with unknown packs, I found that I had some in my VTS_02_4.VOB too.

When checking it in VobEdit, I found this.

LBA
000000
.
.
.
180398 Up to here, I have normal packs

180399 This range of LBAs were unknown packs
.
.
.
311470

UPDATE:

I really wanted to get rid of my unknown packs but they resided within my last cell so I had to do a cell cut. So, I used vStrip GUI. In my Input Options section (Input tab), I entered my last good End LBA, 180398.

http://img106.exs.cx/img106/8637/image0268bc.gif

In Output tab, I saved my file as VTS_02_4.VOB in another directory so that I could view before overwriting my original one.

Preview went fine so I replaced the old with the new. I was going to correct my sectors but realized that I had 10 starting dummy cells in the beginning of my widescreen version. They were pretty much dummy cells which contributed to the new protection we have been hearing about. They were all VOB/Cell ID: 1/1 so I used IfoEdit to remove them through VobExtras. Replacing the old files with the new again, I did a Get VTS Sectors here.

So far, my movie is getting cleaner and better. If I find anything more on this movie, I'll post again.

Oh, I forgot. I posted relevant thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=593693#post593693) in the DVD Decrypter forum.

But on the good side, it's great backup training and it toughens you up! :p Blutach, don't you want some good challenges once in awhile? Van Wilder Unrated R1 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42415)gave me headaches but I finally conquered that beast.

i heard Little Black Book has the same problem :scared:
do you think we will find more dvds like this? are the two disc authored by the same people?
i know we are slowly getting work arounds but what a pain.

won't they ever learn "where there's a will, there's a way."

edit: both are from sony pictures.

@sweetness - this is Sony's arccos's technology and we will see LOTS more of it.

@2COOL - every disk here is a challenge cos they start off at about 6GB+. I would think just eliminating a version would make it very easy to back up a disk :)

I just thought of something. Since my VTS_07 was bogus on my original DVD, can I call that a dummy VTS or a mock VTS?

i just got my first one of these and let me tell you it's not from Sony.

about the unknown packs in VTS_02_4.VOB did DVD Decrypting log show that it inserted any dummy sectors there?(sorry don't know much about packs and sectors. please forgive me if there are two different things)
15:09:24 Inserting Dummy Sectors... (LBA: 287632 - 295818)
if not how would i go about finding all these unknown packs?
