I'm having RB 0.69 and CCE BASIC latest version 2.66 I believe.

If also can use Rejig, and Quenc 54.

CCE BASIC shoulg give best result.

Having a difficult DVD of 7.5 GB (and probably alreday originally low bitrates), al encoders proceduce some kind of blocking.

But CCE is really the worsed of them all (bought version).
Looks constantly blocky on almost all scenes.

Reading the Forum, CCE should be the best.

But what was very clearly ???

What setting I used in DVD-RB, they seem to have no effect in CCE mode. The duration of the encode is always about the same, no matter with which parameter I mess.

Encoding time keeps the same if I choose 1 pass or 9 passes.

So somewhere it looks like CCE isn't functioning correctly or is called incorrectly.

It now looks that settings come not through from DVD-RB to CCE ?!

It looks that passes CCE makes are equal in lenght about 5 minutes for an AVS pass and the same for the output pass (per segment).

Anyone ?

Thx in advance

Cinema Craft Basic 2.69.01.10 is the latest Basic ver., 2.66 sounds like CCE SP to me. CCE Basic only can do 2 passes (1 vaf pass and 1 encoding pass(Really all you need))) that is one of the diff's between CCE Basic & CCE SP.

the basic version can only do 2 passes max (even if you set it on 9)

is the blocking on burnt media or PC playback or both (might be a media issue)

is there large ilvu/angle segments? this could lead to very low bitrates

please post your high/low/average bitrates

My bitrates as reported by RB

2671/2243/2405

This looks not very high to me.

Sorry I've have CCE BASIC latest version.

Can it Indeed only do 2 passes, even with DVD-RB ?

Why is there a setting in DVD-RB for the number of passes, if the mode is CCE BASIC ? (This is very strange).

Why is evevrnody telling that CCE is the best, while it gives me the worsest output of all encoders ?

Quenc does much better, but is slower and still gave blocking only CCE gave constant blocking , the worsest I ever see.

Oh by the way im 100% sure it isn't the media. I use a very compatible player (sony) and always use the same *4 philips RW disks to experiment, even physiccally the same two.

Thx for answering.
