Burning avi Video off my hard drive onto a DVD+R for viewing in my portable DVD player. In NeroVision Express, what's the difference between the "Make DVD" then "DVD-Video" option VS "Make CD" then "Video CD"?
thanks.

Well, as it says there, the one is for DVD, the other for CD.
If you want to know more detail:
VCD uses MPEG-1, 352x288@25fps for PAL, and 352x240@29.97fps for NTSC. VCD uses a constant bitrate of something around 1000kbps (don't know the exact number now).
DVD offers you a variety of different MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 formats, and MPEG-1 720x576@25fps or 720x480@25fps is the highest you can get. The bitrate can be variable, up to 9.8mbps for audio + video + anything else.

How come you ask me ? :confused: In your first post you wrote that you want to burn to a DVD+R.
So, obviously, there is only one option you can choose from. Of course it's DVD-Video, what else could it be ? :rolleyes: :rolleyes:
Video CD is *CD*, not DVD. DVD is DVD, CD is CD. It's that simple. . .

Yes, the "problem" is that while I TRULY do appreciate your answering my question in detail, I didn't understand it. When you label a sub-category "Newbies" you're going to get some who are not-too-bright:confused: . Sadly, that's me so is there any way to "Dumb down" the answer?

Ok, I try.
DVD is DVD. DVD is *not* CD.
CD is CD. CD is *not DVD.
So:
If you want to burn a *DVD*, of course choose *DVD*-Video
If you want to burn a *CD*, choose Video *CD*
When you label a sub-category "Newbies" you're going to get some who are not-too-bright
But selecting DVD instead of CD if you want to burn a DVD isn't rocket science either. . . .

Its not that dumb a question. Many people outside of Asia are completely unfamiliar with Video CDs, where VCD players are as widely used as VHS players are in Europe and North America.
Ignorance is not the same thing as stupidity, robnyt. Don't worry.

Jggimi - Thanks, I appreciate that. Now if only I weren't in NYC I could use your answer as an excuse for not knowing.:)

certainly VCD gets people confused as there are not commercial VCDs (outside of Asia...) so ppl sees:
CDaudio = CD-R
CDdata =CD-R
but video?
