Hello Doom9. I'm new here, although i've been reading through the guides and FAQs for some time trying to piece together a solution for the problem below. Although i've found bits and pieces of relevant info, I can't seem to get the whole process down and so i'm wondering if a: what i'm trying to do is plausible and b: a method for achieving it.

i'm a musician and been asked to do a live rescore of The Shining. The way i've seen things like this done before has been literally cutting the audio out and playing music over the top. I'd like to go a step further. here's what I thought I might be able to do:

1. rip the movie off a DVD.
2. bring the video and audio into cubase SX2.
3. split the 5.1 audio into seperate audio tracks so I can remix the original audio (especially taking out background music and fx and leaving dialogue in).
4. rescoring parts of the movie (that bit i've got under control :) ).
5. collate the whole thing back together in cubase and premiere.
6. burn it back to dvd or stream it live.

What do you think?

Is this possible? And if so, can you help me out with some tips and pointers on how to do it. I'm no expert on digital video, being principally a musician/composer, but i've some experience with editing.

Thanks loads chaps/esses.
