Hi

I have been trying to edit an .avi using VirtualDub, but get the following error when trying to load the file:

"Couldn't locate a decompressor for format MPG4

VirtualDub requires a video for Windows compatible codec to decompress video"

I downloaded a VP6 codec which I thought may have solved it, but the same message keeps coming up.

Any idea which codec would be suitable?

Cheers

This has nothing to do with DivX. Moved to Newbies.

The "FourCC" code in an AVI refers to the video codec used. Googling found this: http://www.moviecodec.com/video/

You'll find it described there as Microsoft's MPEG-4 version 1 codec.
