View Full Version : Nero AVC Playback Filesize Limit?

Has anyone noticed that large files lock on playback somewhere around the 4GB point? I can't seek past this point either. Both MPC and Showtime do this on all my large files (4.38 GB) that I've tested. I'd try to split the files with the Nero AVC muxer filter, but the most I can get out of it is jerky playback of video only.
edit: the jerky playback occurs when I connect the Moonlight Splitter to the Nero Digital AVC muxer. I've managed to successfully mux some small test files using the Nero AVC muxer, but the files usually don't render after remuxing (without audio). I used the following filter graph: nero digital parser >> nero digital AVC muxer >> nero digital AVC file writer. I can't figure out why it occasionally works. Sometimes the split functions works but one half renders and the other half does not render. Thanks!

moved to the container forum, as to my knowledge thats an issue of the nero .mp4 parser/muxer filters
do you have these 4gb playback problems too with moonlight, videolan and mplayer?

I can split files now, but nothing can be rendered after the 4GB boudary point in the original file. Even if the boundary falls part way into a new and smaller (split) output file --say 2/3 of the way through a 1.5 GB file, I can't seek or render past that point. If I set the Nero AVC muxer to split right on the 4 GB boundary, all the files after the 1st one (1st 4 GB) fail to open with MPC and graphedit cannot build a graph.
I also tried celtic_druid's latest build of ffdshow and the latest VLC binaries from videolan.org (0.8.1) and they dont handle these files either. (bframes/weighted prediction/deblocking selected during ecoding). I get a maxed-out CPU, corrupted playback, and frequent crashes with both. I don't yet know if the problem occured during the encoding of these files, or if it's a splitter/decoder issue. I'll experiment with the other filters and players, when I have a chance.
In the New A/V Codecs forum, Beave reported playing large Nero AVC files: "10GB of 720p .ts to 4,36 GB .mp4. Looks great," but I sure don't know how he did it. Maybe he told Recode to split the output to multiple files, but Recode has an option to split to a DVD-9 (8.5 GB) boundary so I don't see why all my 4.38 GB files don't work.
