i've 3 queries:

q1: how xvid choice 1st pass quantizer? I see often choosed quant 2 for i- and p- frame and quant 4 for b-frames.

q2: avg bitrate in xvid status during 1st pass is correct information? If yes i see it's varyng (random?) among films (eg 1024, 1039, 2400, 4039, ...)

q3: i use virtualdubmod without avs script and no audio streams to encode. I see that during 1st pass at "normal" and "idle" setting rate i've better fps rate, like at "highest".
during 2nd pass i reach better fps rate at "idle" setting, at normal lightly worst, at other setting (low, lowest, highest, higher) i've 0.0 fps. It's normal? why?

This really has nothing to do with xvid, it's compression basics.

Read the guides, use the search!

Thank you.

Hi-

Yes, Koepi's right. You have to read up and study.

1. The default first pass quantizer is 2. The default B-Frame settings (2/1.5/1) give a B-Frame quant of 4 for an I-Frame quant of 2.

2. Different movies compress differently. Therefore, you'll need different bitrates to maintain quant 2 for different movies.

3. You should teach yourself AviSynth scripting. Perhaps you might consider trying AutoGK or Gordian Knot to help make your XviD encodes, both of which use AviSynth scripting, before switching to doing it all manually. But I didn't understand your questions 3 and 4. I keep mine at Idle so the computer doesn't bog down, and I can still do things on it while encoding. It works fine.
