View Full Version : Pb with Sound, TimeLine & Subtitles

Hello everybody.

I'm trying to backup my Lord of the Ring Extended movie (2 DVD-9) on one single DVD-R.

I've tested with two softwares, DVD2ONE and DVDRebuilder + CCE

First of all, I've dumped the vob files with DVDDecripter 3.5.1.0 in IFO mode and removed the last 2 "credits" chapters (26min !).
So i've got 2 folders with 1 DVD in each one.

Then I've rebuilt a global .ifo with VobEdit & IfoEdit tools.

With DVD2ONE v1.5.1, I've selected only the English soundtrack and french subtitles. The transcode operation takes 40min
Video quality is fine, but a very little blured.
Subtitles are OK
Timeline is 3h12.

With DVDRebuilder v0.69 + CCE 2.67, I've also selected only the English soundtrack and french subtitles. Reencode operation takes 8hours (1+4pass)
Video quality is better on details !
BUT !
I can select all subtitles (!?), just the french one is working but the letters are green and so unreadable.
I can select all soundtraks (!?), but no one is working, even the english one.
Timeline is 3h22, but the film is OK. (Twice there is a jump on the timeline (per example: 2h23 jump to 2h28 in 1sec, but the video is OK)

Can someone help me ?
- Is there a simple way to merge the good quality image from CCE with the soundtrack and subtitles from the DVD2ONE version ?
- Is there a way to fix the DVDRB+CCE version ?
- Is there a way to solve this pb for the next time ?

Thank you ! :)

I've found some info one the IfoEdit forum, to deals with the green subtitles.

So I understand, this errors (timeline, sound, subtitles) problably come from the ifo file generated by DVDRebuilder.

I try to, take the ifo from the DVD2ONE version, and it works !
Subtitles, timeline and soundtrack are back !

But it seems to freeze on few chapters navigation ....

I'll try to create ifo with ifoedit.

Although I haven't tried it, probably the best way to do it would be to merge the two DVDs together with DVD2ONE on your hard drive. Set the output size very large so it will not be reencoded. The output would be much to large to burn on a DVD-R -- but should be correctly structured.

I'm not sure whether that is what you did...

Then use DVD-RB against DVD2ONE's output. It will encode it down to a size that will fit.

Another option might be using DVD ReMake to do something similar.

@jdobbs

Wouldn't it be a good things that Rebuilder could make it all on is own? ;)

Lots of work, though -- and there are not a lot of two disc movies to merge.

I can imagine that, but there are many animation movies to put in one DVD (ask my 4 years old son :)).

How about adding external subtitles? Is it easier... I'm writing a Guide to make that and keeping the whole DVD but people will need 4 or 5 different programs to make it (IfoUpdate included :))... wouldn't it be great that Rebuilder could manage that? I think this function would make Rebuilder "eternal" :).

Rebuilder will be "eternal" exactly until the price of DL discs comes down.

Ok I'll try the tips with DVD2ONE.
I've spend hours to deals with IfoEdit, but there is always something wrong.

Is there a way to know if DVD2ONE reencoded the output ?

Thank you.

In USA (and other English language Countries), yes... but if it makes possible to insert external subtitles and then re-author the whole DVD, in the rest of the world, no. ;)

keep it UP

I generally use DVDshrink to reauthor and titlewriter to add a menu.

With the Green Subtitles, you can use supremap to open the IFO then open the VOB and see what colors are being used for the subtitle and change them. Or you could open the original and new IFO in IFOEdit and select the PGC and select copy subtitle colors from the Menu, then paste into the PGC of the New IFO.
