Are there any freeware DirectX hiss removal plug-ins?

I haven't heard of any freeware plugins but you might check through the listings at http://www.thedirectxfiles.com/ or www.kvr-vst.com. Although the latter, is more focused on VST plugins, many of them also have a DX version. In addition, if you find a freeware VST plugin that does what you need, try the freeware VST DX Wrapper Lite at http://www.spinaudio.com/downloads.php?download_type=3&download_id=33. This allows one to use a VST plugin in a DirectX app.

If you can't find anything, you might try using a parametric equalizer. This would allow you to reduce a very narrow band of frequencies while leaving the rest of the sound intact.

Steve.
