Hi all,
My iomega Super DVD began to have focusing problems about a month ago so I bought a Sony DRU-710A which will sometimes burn a good back-up, but more offen, discs that skip and/or stop even though all the video information is present on the disc. Can someone recommend a decent burner, or a web-site I can do some research at? Or maybe some advise with insite into the possible cause of my problem? TIA

As far as new burners, this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87698), that's still on the board, gives some nice insights. It looks like you can purchase one of the new NEC models that are getting good reviews for less than $100US.

Skipping/stopping is more often related to media than burner. It may be the burner, don't get me wrong, but it would be worth investing a quid/euro/buck/whatever in some first-rate media (perhaps ask in the burning forum what media people recommend at the moment). Then you could rule out media problems before you spend a packet on a new burner for identical results.
