Well I am a newbie got my DVD burner so I decided to backup few of my DVD’s. The problem is I am getting errors:( I followed this article from videohelp.com (http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=245110) and this one (http://www.thescrapyard.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/files/video/using%20freeware%20utilities%20to%20backup%20your%20movies.htm)

This is the error I am getting It stopped at 87% while burning.

The DVD Burner I have is a LG GSA-4160B 16x "Super-Multi" DVD±RW/RAM "dual layer burner"
Using Princo 4x

And Windows Xp Pro With Sp2

seems to me like a bad media error.
what kind of media did you use? did you check compatibility with your dvd burner? did you check if there's a firmware update available for your burner?

i think this will be very interesting to you, although, i fear, it seems like your dvd burner wasn't the ideal choice:

Could it be because I have Sp2 installed on Win xp ?

Also what's DMA mode, and PIO?

nope XP SP2 shouldn't be the reason...

a short description of PIO and DMA:
DMA is an abbreviation for Direct Memory Access, an access method for external devices where the data transfer is not done by the central processor, but by a small special processor called DMA controller. It uses a procedure called cycle stealing, where the central processor memory access cycles are delayed for very short times to intersperse DMA controller memory access cycles. Some newer, faster DMA modes are called UDMA (Ultra DMA).

The alternative, slow and inefficient data transfer mode is called PIO, Programmed Input-Output, where the central processor transfers data byte for byte or word for word. This requires many processor commands for each data word and therefore causes a high and unwanted processor load.

Ok now that I am testing the burner I have finded out that it doesn’t ever burn normal Cd's properly. I burnt a few songs from the hard drive and when it was done I thought it burnt properly as you would expect but I was wrong.:( When I listened to it there was A LOT OF WHITE NOISE IN THE BACKROUND OF THE MUSIC, you could barely listen to the music. So I tried to listen to the Cd on my home stereo, same thing white noise:( + Some songs aren’t even competed and computer hangs:(

What’s wrong with this DVD Cd burner? Could it be a damaged laser? It reads plays music just fine! But burning is a issue:(

Please I need advice ASAP Thanks:)

EDIT: Before I started to burnt the CD I have uninstalled all NERO programs that I had on and used Windows Media Player Burner Program.
Was using maxell 80min Cd's

Here are the results (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDname=LG+GSA-4160B+&Submit=Search&cdrs=&cdrws=&dvdrs=&dvdrws=&dvdrsdl=&dvdprs=&dvdprws=&dvdprsdl=&dvdrams=&buffer=Any&cdrom=&dvdrom=&orderby=Name&hits=25&Search=Search) of a search for your burner model using the link Killingspree provided; apparently, your unit doesn't like Maxell media. I seriously doubt that Nero is at the bottom of your burning woes, my advice would be to obtain compatible media, re-install Nero 6....and burn the heck outta things. :) In the long run, once you get over this problem and learn how to use it, you're going to love the options that Nero gives you.

All of the people that used Memorex media gave good reports--it should be almost as easy to find as the Maxell that is currently giving you the coaster-crazies.

Here is a picture of the CD that I have burn which wasn’t successful as usual see those spaces on the cd is that normal?
Edit: Also how can i swich betwean PIO and DMA? EDIT: Figured it out:) Which mod should I use? for 4x media? maybe this is the problem it's set at DMA atm..
Also this cd was ment to be a full divx movie
