Help with Backing up my dvds using dvd2dvd

I just recieved a new dvd -/+ r/rw rom for Xmas and am trying to back up my dvd collection. I have used dvd2svcd in the past with great results. I have used DVD shrink 3.1 to do the several dvd back ups. But I have noticed an almost unsteadiness to the dvds, like the cameraman was unsteady. Has anyone else had the problem when using shrink and if so is there a setting I need to check? I would prefer to use dvd2dvd if I can. I was wanting to learn how to use dvd2dvd for my backups but am uncertain of some of the settings. For one I have always used TMPGEnc with dvd2svcd, will this program work when backing dvds? I tried once to do a dvd to dvd backup with dvd2svcd and got the following error? Ewrite error stream write error. Is there a good weblink for step by step instructions for backing up dvd to dvds? Any help would be appreciated, I have posted my log from the failed back up session. I was wondering if maybe the failure was due to lack of hd space, I have since cleared some space.

hi,

first, yes you can use tmpeg to encode your dvds :)

secondly, yes your problem in your first try was caused by low disk space. befor the last step you had aprox 1.7 Gb of disk space, but you where trying to create a 4.7 gb iso...

if you still have the encode, i think you could still salvage it by restarting the last command (or doing it manually). since only the authoring step went wrong...

It was image creation that failed.
Chances are you don't actually need the image file anyway.
In you output folder you should find a subfolder with all the .vob, .ifo and .bup files in.

Create a DVD Video project in Nero (or whatever you use) and add the contents of this folder to the VIDEO_TS folder of your project and then burn them that way.

Alternatively, as killingspree says, either use the Crash Recover feature in the Misc tab of DVD2SVCD to reauthor, or hit the Windows Start button on your taskbar, select Run and copy-and-paste the mkisofs commandline from your logfile to the box.

In order for this to work second time around, you will need to free some space on the drive. I would firstly try and play the vobs in a software player such as WinDVD. As long as these are fine, the *.mpv and *.mpg files in your project folder have done their job and so can be deleted to free space.

The vob files I referred to - make sure you test/burn the ones in the subfolder. It is possible you will also have the original ripped vobs in your project folder. If so, delete these instead of the mpv or mpg files.
