View Full Version : CCE Hangs: QuEnc gives WAY under size

Hi All

decided to try CCE out today for the first time. Just didn't want to put it on my machine before this..... ;-] what with all the stuff going on these days.....

Anyway installed RB with Rocaks installer. First i installed Avisynth 2.55. CCE just hung at 17% of encode. A bit of reading suggested that AVisynth Ver 2.54 was teh recommended Ver for now. So i uninstalled everything , installed Ver 2.54 , reloaded RB with Rockas 0.6 installer and tried again.

This time it started to hang at 15% ???

So i decided to give Quenc .59 a whirl

So i tried with Quenc......first i got an error 6, hmm.

So i deleted everything (movie files) and started a fresh prepare from scratch. Got thru everything to rebuild stage. Kept getting error 3. More reading.......

Found someone say they turned special error processing OFF and it cured the problem....i didn't have it ON , so i decided to turn it on and retry the rebuil stage....it worked.

Problem was the size of the project in my out put folder was 894 Mb for the entire project !!! ( original 6164Mb)...so i tied to open the rebuilt project in shrink to see what is happening....all i get in shrink is a grey screen where you normally see the picture....but i can hear the sound fine......

So i removed CCE , rebooted, re-installed and tried again...now i get as far as 7% and CCE hangs..:-(

Not having much luck with this....

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Hi Again

Hmm the plot thickens.....

After a LOT more reading, i decided it is either 1/ a bad rip ( most likely) OR a memory issue....

So i unistalled everything and started from scratch. I used a different rip of a different movie. This time it started up without a hitch and went through for quite a while without issue....then it hung again about half way through the encode. I rebooted and resumed and it carried on without further issue.

I then loaded the output into shrink 3.2. This time it plays as expected..evrything good.......EXCEPT...

The total size of the project is 2.33 Gb !!

I am a little confused as to why. remember the first time i encoded the first rip with Quenc , quenc encoded it fine but came out at 925Mb. CCE 2.5 would stall at 8% , 15% , 17% , depending on what i played around with......strange to say the least

Second time around on a different movie rip , CCE hung once through the encode and gave a final output of 2.33GB....

Could anyone offer some insight into this and what i might check ?

I am running a new Athlon 64 3200 , with 512Mb of High end ram with a Raptor and several IBM 7k250's SATA drives. No other problems with the machine, Win XP Pro service pack 1a. CCE 2.50sp, Quenc .59 Alpha ,Rockas Installer 0.6 , AviSynth 2.54

Thanks

regards

Mark

Firstly it sounds like your issues with cce hanging and your computer freezing are related to your hardware. If I have to guess I would say your RAM is not playing nicely with the rest of your computer. Either the RAM is bad or (Since you said you got high end stuff) more likely the motherboard you have just doesnt like it very much. Even expensive ram can get rejected by some machines. I would go to the website of your Mobo manufacturer and see what ram they say has been tested exclusively for your mobo. As for the undersizing. Have you done any preprocessing at all to the dvd's before running them through dvd rb? Is the dvd multiangle? Seamless branching?

Hi Seeker

Thanx for your reply.

I have done no preprocessing at all. a straight rip with decryptor in file mode then straight into RB.

The movie is The 51st state. Simple structure, no multiangle, seamless branching etc.

Strange thing is i re-did the movie (again ) last night after going into the RB.ini file in the DVRB directory and adding the target sectors =2236400, with the result the movie processed without any further issue. It went straight through ?? hmm strange.

I am really confused. Dont know what to do next. I have done a lot of reading and cant find anything similar to this.

Strange how at first a movie would not process with CCE but did with QuEnc..but Quenc output was really undersized ( 925Mb) then i changed movie and CCE got half way thru then stalled, then on the second try after adding that line to the ini file CCE happily went thru the whole thing but is still under sized by a HUGE margin.....

Mr Jdobbs , any coment ?

See the log file for the two attempts at this movie at the end of this message.

Thanks for your help

That's not good enough. CCE is probably hanging because it doesn't have a high enough bitrate, which can cause buffer overflows.

It looks like DVD-RB's target size is way too small, could you post your rebuilder.ini? Also, you might want to keep an eye on this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87803), which could be a related issue.

EDIT: Doh!, I didn't realize that was your thread too.

Hi Wmansir

i have to agree.

I have been playing around with this non stop for a day and a half now. Lst night i went to bed but couldn't sleep because it was bugging me so much.....border line obsessive complusive ?.....

Anyway i have found by increasing hte target sectors to a number that SHOULD NOT WORK now gives me an encode of 4.3Gb...Getting there !

What i cant understand is why this is so.

CCE is proving to be much much better now with more bitrate. Not a hiccup anymore from CCE

Have a look at his....

I am sure you noticed

TargetSectors=3264000 !!

all i did from this encode that came out at 4.3Gb to the last one which came out at 2.99 GB was change the target sectors to 3264000 from 2264000...i only changed the first digit from 2 to 3...but that a big 2 to 3 huh ?

Anyway you can see the results yourself.

I'm off to go read your link to the thread....Ihave done SO much reading the last 24 hours , i feel dizzy...

Regards

Mark
