View Full Version : It is possible to change „preferred menu language“ (with PgcEdit)?

If I have parallel menus in different languages, the player always show the menu in the language witch is modify in options „preferred menu language“.
Also if I take a choice in a language menu for another language, I can change the audio language or subtitle language easy, but not the shown menu in the right language.
How can I change the „preferred menu language“ with a command in PgcEdit, so that the player show me the correct language?
Or is there another way to solve this problem?

There have been a few posts about that. You cannot select which language is used in the menu using commands. It's all determined by the DVD player's default language. So the quick answer is no, you can't change that with PgcEdit.
BUT, you can remove all the LU (language units) you don't want, and only keep the LU for the language you want. In that case, your player will select the only LU present no matter what its default settings are.
I'm not sure whether you can remove a single LU with PgcEdit or vobblanker...
Or maybe you can change the languages of the LU to very exotic ones (that you're unlikely to have selected in your player) and change their order so the first one is the one you want. You can change the LU order with PgcEdit.

If there are various menu LUs, the easiest way to remove them is in Ifoedit, IMHO. Use Menu Extras.

Many Thanks, aaaaaaaaa yes, I becoming sober. :( I thought it could be easier to use parallel LU’s. OK, in my case actually I don’t need to delete any LU, but the possibility is very interesting, so I’ll try it! I have to learn using IfoEdit more too.
Best regards

Hello, now I’ve tried to delete unneeded LUs. So:
…with IfoEdit I could strip every LUs, so only the first one left. OK. But what if I want to keep another language unit?
@ jeanl
@ blutach
Thanks, it’s easy to change the LUs order with PgcEdit first and than strip with IfoEdit :) .
I can make both steps in one with VobBlanker. Here I choose menu in the right VTS and mount the needed LU to the first LU, with “Reuse all PGCs from other LU”.
So I can create DVDs for every single menu language. But I think it’s stupid in generally in DVD management, if you choose a language in the language menu and the menu appear in another language.
:rolleyes:

@horusauge
Just did this recently with a DVD that had multiple LUs. Use PgcEdit to swap your LUs so that all your kept LUs is up front. Save when done. Open up your VTS in IfoEdit. In overview, keep in mind of the V/C IDs that your unwanted LUs have. You can strip those out later if you want to cut down on DVD space. Anyways, go to VTSM_PGCI_UT. Change the value of your Number of VTSM_PGCI_LUs (Language Units) to the number of kept LUs you want.
e.g.
If I had 3 LUs and I just wanted 1, then change the Number of VTSM_PGCI_LUs (Language Units)to 1. This, in turn, will remove the LUs starting from the last. So, you'll end up with LU1 and LU2.

Thanks. Yes this is a way to delete the LUs real. But how can I strip the unwanted LUs, because I can’t identify the V/C IDs. For Example in the following with 2 LUs:
It’s seems so that both LUs are in the same cell?

Assuming you just want English LU, blank out cells with VOB-IDs shown in RED. Then change the {Number of VTSM_PGCI_LUs (Language Units)" to 1. If space is not a problem for you with these cells then you don't have to blank them out.
If you want to test your edits on your software player, you can use PgcEdit's Trace function. Set the "Preferred Menu Language" in Virtual Player setup to de (German).

VobBlanker allows you to "reuse" all the cells of a LU in other LU. This action will save all the unused LU space and the DVD structure will be kept intact (well, more or less).

@jsoto
Thanks yes, VobBlanker save the space and blank the unwanted LUs. But it leaves the entries of the old LUs in ISO-files and changes here the V/C IDs to the language you want.
So the DVD function is quite good, like in my case it was OK.
If I want to delete the LU entries in ISO-file, I take IfoEdit like it 2COOL described.
@2COOL
Yea, I have to blank only this Cells witch is used ONLY from the unwanted LU - wow...OK! But I learn to work with IfoEdit, so perhaps you have a link to a guide: How can I blank the specific cells with IfoEdit? It is possible to do? (Some menus are very large.)
