I backed up a number of DVDs using DVDFab (9->5) so now I have a ton of movies on my hard drive each with 2 "Ready-To-Burn" VIDEO_TS folders. This backup solution doesn't scale very well :) What I'd like to do is combine these VIDEO_TS folders (Disc 1 and Disc 2) into a single VOB stream so I can convert it to another format (WMV, xVid, etc).

Is there a tool which will allow me to combine 2 Video_TS folders?

just use dvdshrink. in re-author mode, drag your two titles and use no compression. i think it's the easiest way.

well, OK using PGCedit is easy too. either use the New DVD or Import VTST Title functions.

@sweetness

If you do that, if I'm not mistaken, DVD Shrink will create 2 titles, albeit in one VTS. This may not suit your purposes winterminute.

Winterminute, if you actually wanted one title, you could then merge the titles using either VobEdit or Nero recode.

I'm not sure if 2 titles in VTS will work. I use DVD Decrypter to save as a single VOB stream so I don't know how it will handle 2 VTS.

Are there any good guides for PGCedit or VobEdit to do what I'm looking to do?

Thanks for the replies!

Try this (http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/joinclip.html). Also in PgcEdit: Utilities -- New Play All Title.

yes i forgot about VobEdit:) havn't used it much latey.
what about frameserving since you are converting to xvid/wmv. nicky guides (http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/synth-vdub.htm)
uses less disc space. just thought of it.

man you guys are fast. just missed those posts

Thanks for the link. I followed the steps and after selecting a starting VOB, I didn't get the progress bar and there was no new file created.

From the 2 VIDEO_TS folders, I copied all the VOBs from the first one into a new folder and left the names the same (VTS_01_1.VOB -VTS_01_4.VOB), then I took the VOBs from the second VIDEO_TS folder and renamed them (to VTS_01_5.VOB - VTS_01_8.VOB).

I didn't do anything with the .BUP and .IFO files. i.e. They are still in their original folder.

When I select "New Play All" in PgcEdit, nothing happens. Should I see the UI change in some way?

@winter

Actually, what you are trying to do is equivalent to combining a double sided DVD to a single.

Maybe a beter link is the one half way down that original link. This one. (http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/joinclip.html#joindbl)

Thanks, I'm half way there. When I tried to play the movie via InterVideo (they have an "open folder as DVD") and it fails with doesn't contain valid movie.

Also, I now have a single VIDEO_TS folder with both parts of the same movie. Is there any way I can turn this into a single VOB file the same way that DVD decrypter can create a single VOB? I thought I might be able to tell DVD decrypter to use a folder as a source but it looks like it requires an optical drive. Any ideas?

why do you need it as a single VOB?
dvd spec are that a vob can not be bigger than one gig.(and i might add not bigger then 9 gigs total) VTS_01_1.VOB and VTS_01_2.VOB... are still part of the same title set. you wouldn't know then the player does the jump.
you would not find any authoring programs to do that.

The WMV encoding solution I use requires a single VOB stream. I wonder if there is someway I can create an ISO of this VIDEO_TS and then open the ISO in DVD Decrypter or SmartRipper and then dump that out to a single VOB file.

For Xvid you can use Gordian Knot. I've done something like that few times without problem.
You can use DVD2AVI and open first set of VOB's and then add 2nd set of VOB's and create single .D2V project that can be used in GKnot to create AVS script and then do whatever you want but that is discussion for another thread in GKnot forum.

This may take us back to the first reply, but DVD Shrink can output to ISO.

Use sweetness's method and when you press Backup, select as your backup target "ISO image file and Burn with DVD Decrypter" or just "ISO Image File" if you don't want to immediately burn.

Good luck.
