It's your preference. But if you ask me, I'd use DVD+R with DVD-ROM booktype. Actually that's what I've been using for the last 2 years, and it works well :)

I have read that now some burning programs have an option when using DVD+R media to set a function which allows the burned disc to be read as if it were a DVDROM, which has solved the playback problems that have sometimes been experienced.
Other than that there is maybe not much difference as far as playback of different media is concerned on supported drives, it is also a consideration to check around for what brands are less troublesome on the drives you will be using. I have had trouble with one brand of DVD-R being able to be read in the drive that wrote it but not my second dvd drive which is not a writer. But a different brand of DVD-Rs I brought recently can be read in both drives.
I am not sure if the situation of playing back different types of DVD are going to get better or worse! (with more types being around I mean)
