View Full Version : muxing PAL->NTSC DVD video with scenarist

I am familiar in what needs to be done and made a handy-dandy spreadsheet to calculate where frame points need to be to split an avi into 10 evenly spaced chapters and tells me to 1/1000 s how long the new file should be. i have successfully converted many many avi's by CCE encoding in d2s then stretching the audio manually and muxing in IFOedit. it actually works not-to-terrible if you rebuild all the .bup's and the video_ts files with DVDfab... however re-winding doesn't work (fast forward and chapter search in both dir's are fine tho) and the times may be wonky on the player. that was when i wa lower down the learning curve and just starting to use d2s. now i expect more, i want perfection.....
what i need is a scripting program that will let me use scenarist to mux and rebuild the GOP's. does it exist? what other software is available which will do what i want and can be used by a mere mortal?
I have tried a few other methods to no avail...
with this one instant copy always finds an error @ something 000000 (i think it was GOP 000000), i tried deleting both .bup and the VIDEO_TS.IFO files then rebuilding them with DVDfab, same result.
plus i don't think the pulldown procedure enabled the drop_frame flag bc when i burned it (muxing w/ifoedit like the good ole' days) and played it back on my DVD player it did the gray flickering thing PAL DVD's do, but not so bad.

with this method scenarist fails when loading the files every time.
granted i can't find the "encode audio after video" option anywhere, i don't think that's the problem since i properly re-encoded and renamed the file myself then resumed d2s with the same results.

The easiest software I know to mux and author from elementary streams, along with easy implementation of chapters is TMPGEnc DVD Author.
http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tda16.html
If you've not tried it, it has a fully functional 30 day free trial. Have a look, see if it does what you need.
Only downside is it doesn't support subs, if this is a problem to you.
PS - the "encode audio after video" feature of D2SRoBa is only available in (S)VCD mode, not DVD.

thanks for the tip nick, that's exactly what i need.
however i'm encountering one small glitch. DVD author keeps giving me the fatal error that resolution cannot be 720x576 with a 29.97fps framerate.
here's my d2s log file:

Ah, I see what you've done.
When people tell you to edit the avisynth script, they generally mean check the button in the frameserver tab to Edit as part of video encoding. Then after audio conversion, a window opens up to change the script.
What you have done is use the pen-and-paper icon in the frameserver tab. What this does is edit the ini file from which the script is generated and unfortunately you have done this incorrectly.
The avisynth script used during the process appears in the logfile, and as you can see, it used 720x576.
If you check the button I mentioned and restart the conversion, after 10 minutes or so when the audio has done, it will become clear what modification is needed.
HTH
