XCD and DVD

Almost every compilation that I do is a few Mb bigger than d DVD so I was thinking of using XCD on a DVD but the images done were neither readable with daemontool nor pssible to burn while a normal xcd is readable.
Does somebody had luck to use this combination?

There are a couple of risky things you can try though, like DVD overburning and shorter leadout
Never tried them so I can't tell how reliable they are
