View Full Version : Resident Evil 2 Problems

I've conquered the decryption part of it and got it onto my hard drive using the PSL file provided by DVD Decrypter, however, now I have run into another problem. After ripping, there is about 2 minutes of blank video at the beginning. Ordinarily, this shouldn't be a problem, because you can simply use DVD2AVI to cut this portion off. But there is audio sync problems as well. Unless it is cut at the precise part to the milisecond, the audio will not sync. Can anyone help me out with this on how to get it right?

I am having the same problem. I ripped RE2 (region 1) ok with latest version dvddecrypter 3.5.2.0 and used dvdshrink 3.2 to reauthor to just the first main title, but when I play with Nero Showtime I get over a minute of blank then the chapter starts over again and I can see the video - weird. WMP 10 (w/Dscaler5 and AC3filter) just plays blank and then freezes at 00:01:11.

@Moderators: I know the old-timers are getting annoyed that there so many threads about this movie but since this issue happens *after* the movie is successfully ripped I hope you won't be mad at us. Maybe this thread should merged with one of the ones in the ripping forum?

This is not a DivX encoding problem, it is an ifo-parsing / decrypting problem.

Moved to Decrypting forum, to be left separate or merged with anoother RE2 thread by Lightning UK.

When you use DVD2AVI, you'll need to deselect the first few cells in IFO mode when ripping.

Ones marked with a will be the ones to get rid of. It's probably the first 8 or so.

For DVD Shrink, use the cropping tool to skip the first chunk of the film (the same first 8 cells). These cells are the dummy ones that are part of the protection.

Transcoding in DVD Shrink seems to remove the command in the IFO file that would normally tell the player to skip these dummy cells and not play them.

Thanks LIGHTNING UK! I see what you are talking about, thanks again for such a "lightning fast" answer.

ANOTHER ONE FOR FRELLS SAKE, DONT PEOPLE SEARCH ANYMORE ?????

these threads are all purely RE2 so should all be together with this 1
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87667
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87315
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87371

and that is ignoring this 1 which ripped RE2 ok but asks about processing with ifoedit
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87361
and the other threads(such as the vobblanker thread) where it is also talked about.

anyone who starts another RE2 thread should get a bloody strike since this has got ridiculous.

EDIT:
it has been brought to my attention that some may see what i said as flaming, it isnt or was not meant to be. the last statement a bit harsh i accept but it was not totally serious, as most should have realised, and not a personal attack on the original poster of this thread. the fact is rule/s 1 and 1a of this forum are pretty clear about reading and searching and people who have been here for some time aswell as newbies are totally ignoring it.
before i am accused of trying to be a MOD, no i am not. i have seen in many posts where users have pointed out the forum rules and i dont see why they shouldnt be able to when a MOD doesnt. thats just trying to keep the forum from becoming a mess for everyones benefit.
anyway i have washed my hands of the whole RE2 thing from now on. i will limit my responses to very few areas and none that ask about RE2 from now on.

RE2 ripped for me with DVDDecrypter_3.5.2.0. There were a lot of dummy sectors.

I tried Instant Copy 8 and that worked fine. Just uncheck wide or standard screen to fit on single DVD.

What I ended up doing though is to replace the unwanted movie VOB's and previews with blank black "slides". Create a bitmap at 4:3 and 16:9 and use you favorate DVD mastering tool to create the "slide" VOB's. Use these to replace the originals not wanted.

Use IFOedit to strip streams on these replaced VOB's (you are not actually stripping the streams, just doing this to correct the pointers. Infact check each box as if to keep all of the streams).

(Optional)
Use MenuEdit to dissable the button for the movie that was removed (look in VTS_01_0.VOB).

Don't forget to get VTS sectors in IFOedit before burning.

You will probably get a reallocation error because of the change in the VOB's you have replaced with blanks, but it will burn and play properly.

Have copied this movie perfectly using "AnyDVD 4.4.11" running in the background for the new Sony encryption, and then burnt with Elby's "CloneDVD2"!

Hi 2COOL,

I've read a lot of your guides. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

In your graphics program create two bitmap (.bmp) images (I used Photoshop myself).
One at 720x534pixels at 72 pixels per inch for 4:3
One at 864x480pixels 72 pixels per inch for 16:9

I used Maestro to create the VOBs. Create 2 movie tracks. One set for 4:3 and the other set to 16:9. Drop the images into the proper tracks. Maestro will create a 5 second clip of the image file for you. Compile this and take out VOBs only and save to wherever. Best to rename them to something like "BLACK4~3.VOB,BLACK16~9.VOB,etc..."

I have a folder called DUMMY_FILES and I keep several Blanks that I already created there and just make a copy of the one I need and rename it to the VOB I am replacing. I also created some with the text "Selection Removed".

Remember to create NTSC and PAL versions if you use both.

For RE2 I wanted to remove the 4:3 movie so I replaced the 1st 4:3 VOB (I think it was VTS_05_01.VOB don't remember) with my BLACK4~3.VOB. The rest of the 4:3 VOBs were deleted. I did the same for the previews that play at the beginning of the DVD.

Hope this answered you question.

Check out TitleSetBlanker (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71819&highlight=titlesetblanker), PgcEdit (http://home.tiscali.be/debie.roland/pgcedit/third_party/2cool/blank_titles/blank_vts_titles.htm), and VobBlanker (http://www.posunplugged.com/jsoto/vobblanker.htm). ;)

Never heard of it but took a look just now. Yes I agree this is alot easier. Cannot make a fancy frame with text though :) .

I downloaded PgcEdit awhile back but never tried it yet (I will take a look at your guides). I will take a look at TitleSetBlanker when the bug fixes are in and will take a look at VobBlanker soon to see how I like it.

Thanks for the info.:D

Thanks 2COOL. Did not know you could do that with shrink.

I got a good minute of nothing at the beginning of RE2 as well as asynchronous audio and video. To solve this I went back to the seperate audio and video files on my hard drive, opened the video in nandub, and cut off the junk in the front. Then I used Cool Edit Pro on the .mp3 and cut off the silence in front of it. After that I just muxed the 2 in nandub and suprisingly everything seemed to synched up fine. I think the sync might be off by about 100ms (I'm sure its not perfect as arbitrarily as I cut the .mp3) but during playback you honestly can't tell. :p
I also hit the problem of not being able to rip the disk. But downloading the latest dvddecrypter and the PSL file fixed that. Then I just encoded as normal.
