Eagle, you will need 3 things. 1. A program to convert your divx/xvid
files to a compliant mpeg2 file. 2. A DVD Authoring program to convert the compliant mpeg2 file to AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS folders the Video containing the proper .ifo, .bup, & .vob files. 3. A program that will burn to DVD. I think nero 6 will do all of these in 1 program, however, if you want your own custom menus and the like, you may want to get a separate program for each. AVIDemux is a good free mpeg2 converter, and DVDAuthorGUI & GUI for DVDAuthor & DVDStyler are free Authoring programs. I'm guessing you have a burner program but if you don't, CDBurnerXP Pro is a good free burner program.
For question 2, i'd use DVDShrink to fit the DVD-9 to DVD-5.
Hope this helps.
Happy holidays!

ok i used dvd shrink to copy a movie... just to try it out... it works on my dvd player but it doesnt on my dvd player in the main living room... i checked videohelp.com and it says the dvd player supports it... here (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=dvp+s535d&Search=Search&country=&orderby=Name&hits=25) is the link to the dvd palyer... ive had other copied dvd's work on the player b4.. i burned it on a DVD-r disk when i stick the disk in.. it sits there, starts making the usual noises and then starts flashing a number up that i havent seen b4...

sounds to me like a player/media incompatibility issue. does www.dvdrhelp.com say that your player supports this specific brand of dvd-r or just that it supports dvd-r? unfortunatley it is still the fact that not all brands of dvd media can be played on all standalones...

it doesnt look like it... the disk i was using was a "RiDisc" the other dvd's that i have that are on DVD-r's are "datasafe" ones.. which are ones that work on the player... the "ridisc" are the ones that dont work..... its an old dvd player anyways.... hopefully sometime in the new year were gonna change it to a dvd recorder with a hard drive... ill have to try some other dvd players with this brand of disks..

dvd2svcd can do the job. it needs a seperate encoding software though, which you will have to pay for. see doom9.org for guides and more information

Close, but no cigar, killingspree
In fact, DVD2SVCD supports QuEnc and TMPGEnc Beta 12a as encoders.
Neither of which you have to pay for :D
