Hello, I am completely new to ripping and editing and I was wondering if anyone could help me out . Basically I just do not know what software to use that will do the following:
1.rip a scene or a section of movie from DVD without sound on it
2. rip sectons of sounds from a dvd so i can create sound effects to use elsewhere but not have the video behind it
Basically what i want to do is incorporate a few seconds from other DVDs into my persoal collage be it only sound effects or small video blurps. Can someone recommend an application that will help me out
Cheers

hi and welcome to the forum,
the smallest chunck of a dvd you can rip is a cell which might still be more than you need. but the fastest way to do what you want would be the following:
rip the dvd in ifo mode using dvddecrypter
open the vobs in dgindex, select start and end point and run it.
- if you need the audio you'll have an ac3 file to work with
- if you need the video you'll have a d2v file that you can use to either frameserve to the application via avisynth of vfapi or to encode your video segment with one of many encoding tools...

PS: pls use a more descriptive thread title next time... it makes live much easier for us and will get more people to reading your thread! (and it actually is in the forum rules)

Thanks Spree appreciate the info, after I rip the dvd the way your are saying and then go to edit sections or pieces ...will i be able to see the section or will i just have to go on the time frame by numbers, I guess is there like a scrub wheel where i can just look for what I want then pause there and cut out?

no you'll see the video (but not hear the sound) you'll just have a slider and a start selection and end selection marker...
