I'm using .67 public beta if that matters. Also I did not tick 4:3 -> 16:9 conversion. I opened the avs files using vdubmod and all of them are in 4:3 format.

any ideas? thanks

Look in the REBUILDER.ECL and see what is listed for "aspect_ratio=X" for the offending sequence.

I had a looked at the file and aspect_ratio=2. What's next?

Aspect_Ratio=2 means DVD-RB recognized it as 4:3 -- and it would have been encoded as 4:3. The only thing that might override that would be if the IFO flagged the output as 16:9.

I checked the ifo under ifoedit and it says 4:3. :| I also checked the ifoedit under pgcedit and that says 4:3

Have you tried playing it back with something other than IFOEDIT?

maybe your resolution is 704x576...
=> avs viewed with vdub = 4:3 but actually it is 16:9 ;)

No. I do not know of any software that will play a dvd without converting the files into a dvd image. I do not see any problem with ifoedit as it was using windvd dvd decoder. :)

Unless you haven't had much experience in using vdubmod or vdub, there is a feature called "file info" (under file menu) which tells the user the video resolution.

I forgot to say that I have experienced the problem on 2 DVDs and the original DVDs of course plays correctly at 4:3.

hmm I guess I wasn't clear..

resulting vobs (after rebuild) when opened under dvd2avi are 4:3. .m2v files when opened in dvd2avi and vdubmod are also 4:3

When the ifo is opened in ifoedit, ifoedit says the vts is 4:3.

But when the dvd files is played using ifoedit, the main video is played at 16:9.

Exactly. So as I hear it you are saying DVD2AVI is wrong, VDUBMOD is wrong, DVD-RB is wrong... because you are making the assumption that IFOEDIT is right?

Hmm...

I'd say that under these circumstances I personally would have made the assumption that the playback module is at fault. But that's just me.

no offense but you should read what I have written again.

But I'll say it again anyway.

vdubmod, dvd2avi, and ifoedit all report that the downsampled DVD is 4:3. so this statement from you->

is completely wrong.

throw the files in a VIDEO_TS folder and play them directly in windvd, then burn to RW disc and play in your standalone player

you checked the files in 3 progs, do the same with playback!
