here is what is going on,
i made my own video, its 45 min long. it is about 9 gigs, but when i put in nero it says its only 3. something. i have a Lite-On 16X DVD Dual Drive, Model SOHW-1633S(got it off newegg.com) and nero, im not sure what version, pretty recent (instaled it in november). I have some verbatim dvd-r's that are 2 write speed. i try to burn the video dvd, and it goes all haywire in my ps2. the menu of it works but the video starts out choppy, then goes fast forward crazyness. if someone could help me out, please do so. and please god dont tell me the dvd-burner is poop.

Well, DVD uses the MPEG-2 video codec, not DV. Your raw DV AVI with 9 gigs is too big for a DVD, and is the wrong format, so it has to be encoded to MPEG-2.
Nero does a very crappy job at this, so first I suggest that you use a good encoder, like ProCoder, CCE or TMPGEnc. The final MPEG-2 stream will be around 3.something GB when you use a high bitrate.

I have some verbatim dvd-r's that are 2 write speed.

Verbatim DVD-R . .. but what is 2 write speed ? You mean 2x ? Sounds very old, as 2x is a thing of the past. How old are these discs ?

It's probably a too high bit rate, maybe even exceeding the maximum, or your PS2 doesn't like the Verbatim DVD-Rs.
Did you burn them at 2x ?

and please god dont tell me the dvd-burner is poop.

Don't worry, it's a good one :)

alright!!
now im getting somewhere.
uuhhh i'm using adobe premiere 6.5 to edit and export the video, would anyone know how i could export in mpeg-2 format using that? there are a bunch of options about compression, i just dont know too much about that subject so i didnt mess with it. and are there any encoders that dont cost money or are not expensive?
better yet can someone give me the hook-up with some pireted material.
heh heh heh....

I'm not sure if Premiere 6.5 has an integrated MPEG-2 encoder. I know Adobe integrated MPEG-2 encoding into Premiere some time, but I don't remember which version it was.
If you want a good and cheap encoder, get ProCoder Express. It costs about $60, and integrates into Premiere, so you can export directly from the timeline into the MPEG-2 format, without creating the AVI first.

better yet can someone give me the hook-up with some pireted material.
heh heh heh....

You mean, like a cracked ProCoder Express ? I think I got something for ya ..here it is: See No. 6 for more information (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm).

well i found some option in adobe premiere that allowed me to export the video. now i have these 2 files, one is audio and one is video. now i dont know what to do with them.
??????????????

So now you exported directly as MPEG-2 and now have a video and audio file ?

These are called Elementary Streames. You can now load them into an authoring program (Nero should come with one), and let it create the DVD files (ifo, bup, vob), which you can then burn.

ok nero is asking only for .bup, .vob, ifo files. and mine files are a .m2v??? i started to mess with some settings in premiere, before it was called just a dvd format, but now i changed it to mpeg2. but that won't fit the file type requirements. what the hell is going on?

What do you mean ? I told you already: Load your elementary streams into an authoring software and create the dvd files. And then you can burn them.

Hopper,

To elaborate on what Geek is saying, there are many progs to get elementary streams authored into a DVD, some are even free. Read the guides.

Nero is not my choice for a good burning prog, but things should work if you burn an empty AUDIO_TS (case sensitive) folder and a VIDEO_TS folder containing your .bup , .Ifo , .vob files which is what you
get when you input elementary streams into an authoring prog.

worst case scenario use imgtool classic to create an .iso then burn with DVD decrypter.
