OK, ive had a read through part of the guide, the part i need to know.I have a Leadtek TV2000 Expert card which has a Conexant CX23881-19 chip.I have installed the latest drivers from Leadteks site, driver version 5.13.1.3307.I will be using Virtual Dub with the Huffyuv 2.2.0 codec(not sure if this is the latest)
My final output is to be dvd 720x576(maybe 352x576 for vhs capture will have to test to see what a vhs capture at full res looks like), after capture i will encode to mpeg2 with cce.
The part that i need a little info on is the capture with the correct AR.Now reading from the guide my chip has a capture window of 51.56 (although the guide has different drivers)Now doing the first resizing caculator method the correct pixel size for full res is 696 and half res is 348.
So what i would like to know is when capturing do i cap at 720x576 then when encoding to mpeg2 resize to 696x576 and add borders or do i cap a 696x576 then add the borders which would be 12 ether side for full and 2 ether side for half res....
I will also be capturing from my sky digital box using a scart to composite converter, would I apply the same method to these captures as vhs ?? some of the sky programs are out putting 16.9, so im guessing i cap the same way but just flag the mpeg2 as 16.9 in cce.
If I have it correct I was wonder will I actually see these black bars and if I did’nt do this I just capture straight to 720x576 would the ar be off ??

The latter. Cap directly at 696 and add borders to 720x576 (or 704x576 if you prefer)

I'm not familiar with what the output of this box is. There are two possibilities:
- all 576 lines contain picture, and a WSS signal tells the TV to squeeze to 16:9 (Is that PAL-plus ??)
- the signal is already letterboxed by the sky box, in which case the picture you are capturing is in effect 4:3, part of which is black letterboxing lines.

I dont know what pal-plus is.Not sure how it works. If the sky channel is transmitting in 4.3 i get a full screen image(tv stays in smart mode). If the sky channel is transmitting in 16.9 the image is ws, my tv will auto switch to wide mode so the ar is correct and not stretched. Really all i need to know is do i cap in 720x576 or 696x576 and add 12 pixel to each side, or does this only apply when capping from vhs.
With the audio, should i cap using the red and white leads, or connect the audio straight to the sound card? Also what should i cap the audio in?? pcm 16 or 32 bit 44.100khz or 48khz as my final output will be dvd.
What line do i add to the avisythn script to get boarders on the sides of the image? and will i actually see these boarders on the tv ?
Lastly why is it nessasery to cap at a lower res then add borders to get to the correct size ? would the ar be in correct.
Thanks for your help.

do you get the video (or audio) with any program
or is it just vdub and vvcr that are having problems?
do your know, if your drivers are WDM or VfW?

Have'nt got any other programs to try.The drivers are WDM. I did disconnect the audio cables from the scart adapter and connected them directly to the video player and i got audio but theres no composite out for the video.I really would like to get this working with the scart adapter as i want to try ad capture from sky as well using the scart out on the box.
I just found a scart to composite adapter that has a switch on it to switch from s-vhs to vhs, even though the player is'nt a svhs player the i was using a composite lead switching to s-vhs i got a picture and sound. This seems ok, not sute if is will drop the quality, did'nt look like it had as i done a quick test capture.
Anyone know if i apply the same cap at 696x576 then adding 12 to each side afterwards applys to if i capping from my sky box using a s-video out from it.

This applies for any source you cap with your card as long as your final target is DVD. So yes, for sky too :)
[edit]
By the way, it is no problem to connect the audio cables directly to the VCR and use the scart only for the composite signal.
