Is there any true benefits to having the burn proof feature enabled? On two occasions, it did not help. On the first, a screensaver loaded and the reording failed to finish. On the second, I just switched to another window and it failed again. It is a good thing I was trying the burns on DVD+RW so I just erased it and can use again.

DVDs don't have burnproof.

DVD-R/W use Zero-Link, which can be switched on and off
DVD+R/W use LosslessLinking, which cannot be switched off.

If recording fails for the reasons you have mentioned, you have a severe problem with drive/media combination (or the disc is just dirty?), or something is very badly configurated. Or maybe the drive itself or the burning app is just flawed

So what you are telling me is that it should be okay for me to use the computer, such as browsing the Internet, while burning the DVDs?

Make sure you have dma enabled and your hd is properly defragged

Those items are killers when it comes to dvd (or even cd) burning

Whilst programming DVD Decrypter, I often test the burn proof feature of drives by pausing the burn via breakpoints in my development environment. I can sometimes pause the burn for minutes at a time and never have I had it fail to restart when I'm done debugging.

So in short, burnproof works fine, and yes, you should be able to surf etc without problems.
