Slow ripping speed - Pioneer DVR-108

I just bought this new 16X DL burner and I tried to rip Big Fish NTSC and the fastest I got was 4.6x Is there a way to increase this speed or should I put my old Pioneer slot loader back in?

Pioneer intentionally limits rip speed (less errors). You can upgrade your firmware to 1.14. Two hacked versions exist, 1 changes rip and burn speed, the other changes only rip speed.

Use a dvd-rom to rip the disc. I never use a burner to rip a disc (unless it's my laptop) and don't recommend using hacked firmware which can render your drive inoperable and unrepairable. Yeah, I know burners have gotten very cheap the last year or so, but new dvd-roms are even cheaper.
