Calling all geniuses,
I am trying to burn a dvd using NERO 5 Burning ROM and I receive the following message:
"There is not enough space to burn this compilation onto this medium. Please insert another medium that provides more space..."
I do not know what I am doing wrong.
In DVD SHRINK Preferences, I set the Target DVD size to Custom and typed in 4452MB. (4452 megabytes = 4.34765625 gigabytes). This should fit on a DVD which holds 4.7GB - right????
The VIDEO_TS folder contains 4,668,262,400 bytes or 4.34GB
The AUDIO_TS folder is empty
I tried using different blank DVDs so at least I know it's not the disc in question.
Has anyone had this problem? Any fixes?
Thank you in advance.

hi tacostoo and welcome to the forum!
hmmm... well i am definitely NOT a genius and personally do not use nero to burn anything.
what i can do is suggest some free-ware alternatives that may produce a better a result - to date, they have never failed me :D
imgtoolclassic (avaliable from the doom9 download page) to create an .iso image of your files, which will then automatically open dvd decrypter (which i am assuming you have installed, if not, DO IT .. DO IT NOW :p ) and burn the .iso image to your blank disc.
here is a guide you can follow: Burning DVDs (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdburn.htm)

I will definitely use this software.

In DVD SHRINK Preferences, I set the Target DVD size to Custom and typed in 4452MB Is there is a special reason for using the Custom size? Just use the standard DVD-R or DVD-rw size. It will work.
Getting an error in DVD-Decrypter and manually overriding it is asking for trouble. That software is VERY solid and if it is complaining there is something not right.

Before I did any ripping/burning I was reading countless articles on the internet about all this software and quite a few people recommended using CUSTOM 4452MB because the disc needs some "space" to close it. I did this and my copy looks great.
Regarding the "unsolid software"...I don't know what to tell you. I guess I'm just happy I was able to use DVD Decrypter to burn the iso file to a blank disc since NERO was not allowing me to burn the VIDEO_TS files. (I used ImgTool Classic to convert VIDEO_TS files to an iso file.)

I understand your thinking however I am trying to help you as a newbie down the safest path. Yes, you can probably push the size up. When you do this you run the risk of burning further into the area of the disc that have media problems and will create playback problems down the road. Not burning every single space on the disc is just more consdrvative.
Just for the record, both DVD-Decrypter and Nero are solid products and if both give you errors, maybe it is what you are doing is the problem or at least non-standard.
If you don't want advice, don't post.

Windtrader - all I want is advice. I'm not doing anything non-standard. I upgraded my Nero to 5.5.10.X so that fixed that. Not sure why I got the DVD decrypter error.
Also, if you read my whole post - I was pushing the size down, not up. Hope this helps.

I upgraded my Nero to 5.5.10.X so that fixed that. Glad that worked. It went over my head that you were using Nero 5. Some of those versions were known as a bit buggy. The current release level is something like 6.6.... Version 6 is quite stable.
And my apology for the snappy post. Sorry, Must be that time of month. :-|

i have to agree with windtrader on thisGetting an error in DVD-Decrypter and manually overriding it is asking for trouble. That software is VERY solid and if it is complaining there is something not right.
to be honest i would suspect that the discs you are trying to burn to may not be of good quality.
or your drive may need updated firmware.
as a last resort i would even check your method of back-up to see if you are introducing any inconsistencies.
i ran a search on 'Unable (to) recover TOC' and found these other threads which may give you further information to troubleshoot the anomoly.
