Hi everybody, this is my question: when i backup a dvd i usually remove some extra, or some language and i keep the menu. I would like to edit the menu inserting a personalized image (feature removed) in the menu, is it possible? which tool do u suggest?
Thanks a lot

Hi vid,
Welcome to the forums.
DVD Shrink has a one click solution to this.
Get it here. (http://www.dvdshrink.org/)

Blutach,
I didn't know that shrink could do something like that!
Can you elaborate?

Just open your movie in DVD Shrink and pick the menu you want to blank / substitute a "blanked out" JPG/PNG/BMP etc with and change the video box (where it says Automatic) to Still Image. Browse to the pic you want and insert it.
DVD Shrink even comes with some "blanks" (see the "Still Images" folder under the DVD Shrink program files) but I like the posunplugged site.

OK, very cool thing... but let's make an example to explain my problem: i remove the french language from the movie, so i want that when i click in the audio menu on the "french" button the "feature removed" image appears... I can't do that with dvd shrink because it only allows to substitute an entire part of the menu. Am I right?

It depends on what you're trying to do.
If you want to go to another screen, then you can't do that with shrink, but I believe you can add something like that with PgcEdit's NewMenu function.
If you want to modify the way the menu look then you'll have to substitude another frame and according to blutach, you can do that in shrink...

@vidario
Yes, you are right in respect of what you want.
However, if you have removed French audio or subbies, why be able to click on that option at all?
Use Menuedit (http://www.dimadsoft.com/menuedit/index.php) to delete the button entirely! Then you don't need to create a new menu PGC with feature removed video just because something isn't there. IMHO, that would be annoying anyway, because of going back and forth to the audio/subpic menu from this "feature removed" screen.
For what you are proposing, you must edit the menu buttons anyway. So why not just delete them? IMHO, of course :)

I had this same similar conversation a long time ago. If you remove something, why bother with a message. If you can't click on it since the button selection was removed then it becomes obvious it's gone. I can see if someone splitted their DVD and wanted a "Insert Disc 2" message but a "This has been removed" message is overkill IMO.
Just putting in my 2¢. ;)
@vidario
But without vision, there wouldn't be opportunity. If you want a message like that, it is possible. I had a brainstorm the other day about creating a new PGC with a cell displaying the message. You could jump to this cell when you select the removed audio selection and jump back to the audio menu when it's done playing. You may have to edit the button command but it seems doable. It won't be easy but again, it's possible. I've never done this so it's trial and error for me. I'd honestly say that if it was too time consuming, I would propose to do the menu button hiding method.

Oh, and yes, there is always opportunity. Just the visonless are blind to it (I guess by definition).

Well, currently I use the menuedit method, but i think, and this is only a personal opinion, that having that message would be more "professional"... I'm going to look for a guide of yours, thanks 2COOL!!

Actually it is fairly easy. Just like 2COOL suggested.
Here is what you will need to have to do it (using DvdReMake Pro, probably can be done with PgcEdit, don't know what it can do nowdays):
1. Preauthored menu with message in the same video format used by "select audio" menu, either with "return/ok" button (using same CLUT as audio menu for highlights) or without buttons (in this case we will change things to go back to audio menu after some fixed time interval).
2. well, nothing more :)
Procedure:
1. Import disk into DRM Pro, navigate to PGC with audio menu (lets assume that "audio menu" has index Z;
2. Right-click in PGC pane (where all PGC cells are listed) and "add program" (lets assume that added cell has index X);
3. Right-click on added cell and select "Replace Block", load your "message menu", select it and OK;
4.
4.a) if your menu is with "return" button, then
- double-click on button you want to point to the message, click on "..." in Command group to edit button command and enter "Link Instructions/Link Cell" command and enter Z into "cell #" field (you can also put index of the button you want to have highlighted when you return to audio menu into "highlight button #" field)
4.b) if your menu without button:
- switch to "cell commands" tab, right-click in it and "add command": "Link Instructions/Link Cell" and put Z into "cell #" field (you can also put index of the button you want to have highlighted when you return to audio menu into "highlight button #" field), lets say this added command has index Y;
- double click on "message menu" cell and select added cell command and still time duration;
5. switch to cell with "audio menu" double-click on button you want to point to the message, click on "..." in Command group to edit button command and enter "Link Instructions/Link Cell" command and enter X into "cell #" field.

1) If you are OK to blank out a whole titleset, not just a few titles within the titleset, then use this method:
1a) Load the DVD in PgcEdit, and right click on any title PGC in the VTS you want to blank out. Select "Blank Out All VTST Titles".
1b) Select the optiom "Replace the Titles by an Imported Clip". You may use a still frame, an animated clip, or a menu with one button, press OK, and select the clip in the file browser.
1c) If the removed title has several cells, you may want to add the cell command 'LinkTailPGC', in the original PGC. Then go to the PGC Editor, and, in the cell table, add the number of this command in the 'Cell Cmd' field of cell 1.
2) If you want to blank a specific title among other in the titleset, then do:
2a) Right click on the PGC you want to blank, and select Kill PGC Playback.
2b) Select the menu Macros -> Import Title's Intro Clip. You may use a still frame or an animated clip. Click OK, and select your clip in the file browser. That's all.
Note that the original title is not removed from the VOB in this second method. You will have to remove it with VobBlanker (or whatever method you like), without the option to change post to pre commands. This may be done before or after using this method.

What about if I want to edit the video or still menu which has all the subtitles listed on it and replace all the defunct subtitle's graphics with my own design saying "You can't choose this" as an example, similar to a watermark?

What menu you are talking about? The one you've added or some original menus? Will this shed any light: http://cdr-zone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1393 ?

OK it was a problem with my powerdvd player... buttons work fine now. What about my first question about splitting dvd? I like your way of explaining (X,Y,Z ;)), can u go on please ;)? I would like to know how and where i could add the clip "insert disc 1" (obviously when i'm on the second disc). For the "insert disc 2" i think i can find many guides, can't i?
Thanks a lot
