some people might find these two projects on sourceforge interesting:
- Caliph & Emir is a java-based mpeg-7 (yeah "seven") tool published under gpl which can be found here (http://sourceforge.net/projects/caliph-emir/). it lets you describe the content of pictures and also search for the content
- also the ViTooKi project is working on mpeg-7 and mpeg-21 under gpl. find it here (http://sourceforge.net/projects/vitooki)
some more mpeg-7 projects can be found on sourceforge too, by using the search function :)
if someone doesnt really know what mpeg-7 is, from my poin of view its something like a very advanced tagging system (content description), which for example lets you describe in lots of details the content of a picture as text. now if you have thousands of such pictures, it would be possible to simply use a search tool and search for all pics that show "bond" for example ;)
