High/low bitrate for 384*288PAL ?

What is your opinion about high/low avg bitrate edge for 384*288PAL encoding, according to MPEG/H263 choosing ?

Intended Xvid settings would be like MSP=6, chroma motion, VHQ1,Bframes as default, adaptive quant and trellis. No QPel, No GMC.

Well, as we all know it dpends highly on the source. It might look perfect (albeit abysmally low resolution)at +/- 500kbit, and it might be an ugly mess.

Do a comp test (cq2) and see what the average bitrate turns out to be - this is a "best case" scenario.

I find cq3-4 to be still excelent quality, so you have some "wiggle room" from the cq2 bitrate.

Then do a proper 2 pass encode with a final target filesize that is apropriate - hopefully your cq2 encode will teach you something ;)
