just found this site of a firm developing a mpeg-4 codec it seems (they love to talk about their stuff as if they reinvented the wheal + managed to keep compatibility with old mpeg-4 compliant players (oh my god, it really must be a breaktrough technology!!! ))

maybe you guys want to check out their samples (.amt extension - is this simply .avi, .mp4 or raw mpeg-4 video?) and their player (installs directshow filters?) here (http://www.amt.tv/download.htm)

It says you need a password to download the files, the link to the streaming files are, for example:
http://www.amt.tv/video/xmen_clip_1.ams

Now I wonder what the link to the .amt files would be? ;) Appears I don't need the password...

Downloading now, i'll let you know. :)

AMT/MPEG-2 codec

Achieves DVD-quality at 1.6 – 2 Mbit/s (full resolution)

Best proprietary MPEG-2 codec in the world

Fully compatible with standard MPEG-2 codecs

Full playback compliance on all DVD-players in the world

AMT/MPEG-4 codec

Achieves DVD-quality at 0.5 Mbit/s (full resolution)

Superior in performance over all other proprietary MPEG-4 codecs

Fully compatible with standard MPEG-4 codecs

Full playback on all MPEG-4 supported DVD-players

AMT Pro codec

AMTs new super video codec

Achieves DVD-quality at 250 – 300 kbit/s (full resolution)

Probably the best proprietary video codec in the world

:sly:
Should I believe them?

I tried the first two clips.... I would hardly describe it as a "streaming" experience, as the entire clip had to be buffered before playback commenced.

Once buffered, the first (350Kbps) clip was 10.6MB and 3m 17sec in duration. And the second (450Kbps) clip was, 12.2MB and 3m 00sec in duration

Both clips were very low motion scenes, so it's difficult to tell if the codec is any good or not!

Anybody else..

250-300kbps > full resolution > DVD quality???

Maybe is MPEG-16/AVC Super Ultra Extreme World Destruction Edition :D, or maybe they've mistaken "DVD" for "VCD" :D

...or maybe they say the truth

Well having a quick look thru:

The AMT files have they're own header at least of AMTC, and I don't recognise any StartCodes (but I haven't looked hard), so maybe it's encrypted(?)

The Media Player executable is packed and encrypted too, but if I find a moment, i'll unpack it and decrypt it.

Not that i'm a cynic or anything, but i'm willing to take bets on finding xvid/skal code in there ;) lol

Saw that too. Some of the wording was changed after we picked up on it at the DivX.com forum.. I presume somebody from DXN must have contacted them.

that article doesn't really say anything new. Better than MPEG-4, we've heard that for a while. Better than MPEG-4 but still compatible, that's about all that's new, and without encoder to verify that, it should be discarded as the usual PR blablah unless independent verification has taken place.

Let´s wait and see.
They seem relly concerned about protecting it adding cost using a dongle.

That in my book is proof of confidence or "ultrastupid".
