Hey, I think my current burner might be going (still need to run some more tests), and I'm looking for a recommendation on a new one.

My old one is a (TDK SD-5002 I think), as for a new one, I really don't care about speed as long as it can definitely do 1x in addition to whatever higher speeds it supports. My #1 criteria is reliability. Anything that has a rock solid reputation and is likely to last me a couple years and/or has a nice warranty is good. My second criteria would be price since I don't want to spend too much, although that shouldn't be a problem seeing as how I'm not looking for bleeding edge. I'd prefer a -+ burner, but hell, I'll take a regular DVD-RW burner if its reliable enough.

If you don't know of any particularly good ones, at least tell me some BAD ones to avoid.

I'm still using a Pioneer DVR-103(A03) (2x) drive. I swear by Pioneer, perfect quality and near perfect compatibility using recordnow max 4.

I'm considering upgrading to a DVR-108(A08) but with what I'm hearing about DL burning and the fact that I can't find a good burning prog compatible with this drive. (worst case you can always use imgtool & DVD decrypter). I'm going to wait a bit longer.

The best buy right now is the NEC 3500A, which is a dual layered muliti drive that does all formats except ram. Newegg.com would be the place to buy this for around $63-68 delivered. Good luck.

p.s. read the reviews while you're down there.
